Dawn.com invites its readers to share eye-witness accounts and photographs from the incident.
An explosion occurred on Karachi’s M.A. Jinnah road on Monday during a Shia procession commemorating Ashura.
For the city of lights, it’s the third blast in three days and the latest in a series of blasts that have taken place during the holy month of Muharram.

*In response to Dawn.com’s forum, an eyewitness, Waheed Zuberi, shares his photographs from the explosion during the Ashura procession on M.A. Jinnah Road on Monday afternoon.
Our condolences to the family of the deceased. From all this I gather is that it was not an attack on any religion it was not a matter of shia or sunni it is our country being taken over by terrorist. I would like to know what is our government doing. These attacks have been going on for a longtime.
How can a Muslim think of attacking the mourners of Prophet’s beloved grandson. If the goal of the suicide blasters is Paradise, how would they be explaining their actions to Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain, the leaders of the youth in Paradise.
Unfortunately once again enemy succeeded last two days (8th and 9th Muharram) two blast occurred but no one took it seriously so it was obvious. What happened as we saw, for precautionary major we should have canceled all our gatherings as my sister said Amber said If we cancel everything and sit home, that means that they won etc. It’s not time to be emotional our Martyr are alive in our hearts they gave us a lesson of patience to us.
Whatever I am reading is utterly sad. It is highly shameful that the government does not come out in the open to condemn the root cause of all these attacks.
I understand the teaching of Islam is to convey the message in the best manner, beautiful manner, not by provoking other, not by using ugly means. The correct is approach is to take ones own emotions out of the discussion, and pull out the facts from the hub, from the source, and reason with justice & wisdom, and do it all not to belittle anyone, but to earn rewards from Allah, which means it should sincere selfless talk. What terrorists are doing in the name of religion has no relationship with what was approved, seen, said or implemented by the prophet in his strictly 23 years role as the last messenger of Allah. These people are misguided.
In reply to the comments regarding ‘canceling’ the Juloos, I would like to explain to my friends above that we the shia community would rather give their lives than stop the Azadari. The point of Karbala and Imam Hussain’s sacrifice was exactly this where Good was to never bow down to evil. No matter how strong evil is.
Today on the street of MA Jinnah Road, the cowardly blast was just a manifestation of how mourners of Prophets family were an eye sore to the enemies of Prophet and his family.
Please accept our sympathies to the loss of near & dear ones. Killing & hatred in the name of religion, personal belief does not do any good.
Please Pakistanis stand together against this hatred & stop the nonsense.
Stand firm against all terror, do not let your house / street to be a platform of terror. Our wishes & prayers from your friend – India
Indeed a sad day. As an Indian and a Kashmiri Hindu, I can feel the pain of people who have lost their near and dear ones. It is time that our Pakistani brothers realized that the mortal enemy is one with a twisted ideology and they will kill people of any religion to push their agenda.
Asalam Alaikum,
Islam the religion of Peace, May Allah S.W.T give all the martyred their high exalted places in heaven.
This event has shattered the Muslims all around the Globe. Karbala is an eye opener for the Muslims, rather all faiths all Humans.
We should follow our Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H) teachings as this is the time we need them most, its now our duty to be calm, to take guidance from Quran and stand against all evils.
May Allah protect all Human race from evil and their evil acts and guide us the children of Adam (P.B.U.H) to unify against the Satan and his followers, Amen.
AOA.
What a sad and tragic event. My condolence to the bereaved families. I don’t know what joy the terrorist might have got by killing innocent children and women in a procession of mourning. If they believe in day of judgement then I am sure they will be dealt with by Allah Almighty for their heinous and barbaric acts.
Let us make all procession whether on Ashura or Eid Miladunnabi unlawful. They not only provide an easy target to the terrorist but also cause hardship to other people.
What a shameless act and yet we call these people “Muslim”. We need to understand that reciting Kalma only brings you into Islam but to be a Muslim it requires lot more than offering prayers. Respect of human life is the first and foremost requirement to be a human. One cannot be a Muslim without being a human. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to those who lost their love ones and pray for the early recovery of those injured.
It is still state vs militants and not people vs militants. Rise up you ordinary Pakistani, rise up. Make it happen. You and I have to rise. God bless Pakistan.
Ashura Procession cannot be canceled. No matter what the security situation is, Jaloos will keep on. Always….
Salam,
First of all I want to say that please do your Prays in your Boundary not on roads like SHIA’s Peoples do in MUHARRAM this will help bad peoples to do bomb attack and in ISLAM there is no permission of these kind of JALOOS or MAJMAS.
So it’s my humble request to SHIA’s Peoples that do your Pray or JALOOS or MATAM at your IMAM BAR GAH not on the road.
Talha Bin Masood- I agree with you 100% on your comments below. And believe me, this “mentality” is the root cause of terrorism in Pakistan.
“These people (who burn vehicles and buildings) are no victims, rather evil minds, who don’t let go any opportunity to destroy the system and they react really fast upon the opportunity. There is a serious lack of education and civic sense in all of the country men, who support these acts, and to me this mentality (in our general public) is more alarming (in the longer run) than the suicidal triggers themselves.”
SALADIN- it’s not about killing of a Muslim by another Muslim. It’s about killing of a human being by another human being.
SHAMS- It’s no ones agenda, its all relates to intolerance and lack of inter faith harmony in Pakistan.
Let us be united and hold the rope of Allah, these animals can not harm us no matter what, since the history these evils always there and kill innocents please be united we are one Muslim let’s fight together.
I salute those who had courage to be part of Jaloos & were martyred, their place is in heaven.
It was better if there was no Muharram procession this year including other processions by Sunnis also. Human life is very precious and all must think about different solutions of which one is to avoid big gatherings. It is not about being coward if you avoid religious gatherings and processions rather it is an intelligent solution at this moment. May Allah bless the souls of those who lost their lives.
Extremely sad incident, There are no words to condemn. By now I think majority of Pakistanis understand that these attacks are not against any group of people but is against the people of Pakistan.
We are united and stands as one nation to face these cowardly attacks and with the Grace of ALLAH we shall defeat such groups.
PAKISTAN ZINDABAD
Inahlillah-e-Inah alaha Rajaoon
My heart bleeds for the victims. May Allah blessed their souls.
Commenting on HASAN’s argument that Jaloos should be canceled. Imam Hussain could have saved his entire family if he only agreed to conditions of Yazid. He didn’t!
We are the followers of the same imam. No Yazid of his time will stop the message of Karbala, never, and not at any cost!
Always sad to see innocent pay the price.
Dureen, you are wrong. The only people to blame here are other Pakistanis, Muslim Pakistanis. It is a dangerous myth to believe that Muslims cannot kill other Muslims and “foreign lobbies” are doing all this to destabilize “the land of the pure”. We have lost our way as a nation. Only we are too blame for our woes.
