Kya Pakistan or India Tom and Jerry hain?

As the much awaited Pakistan-India talk takes place today, Wusatullah Khan asks the following:

Are Pakistan and India like Tom and Jerry – they can’t bear to be with each other yet can’t stand to be without each other either? Instead of being worried about their future, both countries are more worried about maintaining their false pride. Why are these 63-year-old countries acting like five or six-year-old school children who get into useless banter over every issue? How long will it take for them to stop this bickering?
Do you have any idea or suggestion?

Kya Pakistan or India Tom and Jerry hain – jinhain aik doosray kay saath bhi sakoon nahi or aik doosray kay bina bhi chen nahi? Donon ko apnay mustaqbal say zyada apni apni naak kay neechi ya oonchi honay ki fiqar hi kyun rehthi hai? Yeh donon 63 saala mumaalik, paanch chhay baras kay school janay walay bachon ki tarha, har maslay par guthm guhtha honay ki aadath say kab jaan churra sakain gay? Aaj bath ho gee iss  par.

Aap kay zehn may bhi yaqeenan koi bath, koi sawaal ya koi tajweez ho gee. Iss kay liyeh humain likhiyeh.

Well as Indian, I can say that Indians in general are not concerned with any of its neighboring countries. Indians are only concerned with their livelihood and growth. Also it’s not about ego that you mentioned. There is difference between naak uthi/nichi and being hurt. Kya India ko Pakistan bin nahi chalta ya Pakistan ko India bina nahi chalta? Well ofcourse Pakistanis ko ofcourse India bina aaram se chalega and same goes for Indians too. Normal Insaan belonging to any country wants good life for himself and family. That’s what matters.

  2. SB says:

100 years back we were not divided. 100 years from now none of us knows how we are going to be. We only fight for the 60, 70 years we are alive. Is this needed? Afterall we were always together for most of recent history..

  3. Aaditya says:

Both countries are having lots of problems. We Indians don’t say that we are superior or hum doodh ke dule hue hain….

Come lets work together and take out all the extremists from our Countries.

  4. EYM says:

I would disagree with the fact that – ‘we can’t live without each other’. Trust me, we can live without each other. I am a Pakistani, with all due respect to the Indians out there, if tomorrow someone approaches me and tells me that you would no longer have ‘India’ or ‘Indians’ in your life, I wouldn’t be bothered at all!

I would say let’s just ignore each other and pretend the other one doesn’t exist. And well in the end even if that is difficult for us then I guess we will just have to accept each other and live like an unhappy couple for the happiness of our kids (the citizens of both the countries)!

  5. Jabran says:

No doubt india is a bigger country but their hearts are small.

    • Vivek says:

You would find all types of people everywhere,

Who else could have given a part of the country for their Muslim brothers to make a country for themselves and also retain a greater lot to live with them. Let them declare a Muslim country and remain secular.

  6. raki says:

No. India and Pakistan are not Tom and Jerry. Because, of Tom and Jerry, one is small, weak or big, or and smart and the other is big, strong and smart. And, they compete with each other for fun but they don’t fight. The moral of the story is that being small or big, or, being weak and strong does not matter as long as both are equally smart.

As for Pakistan and India, for the last sixty two years both have acted in ways they thought were in the best interest of their country and people. And, today they are where they deserve to be. May ‘god’ give them wisdom to choose the the ideals that are in the best interest of their future daughters and sons, and then live by those ideals – live, not die.

    As someone has aptly put:
    May we have
The courage to do what we can
The humility to accept what we can’t do
    And
The wisdom to know the difference.

My best wishes are with all the people, both of Pakistan and India.

  7. ashutosh says:

I feel the arguement is too simplistic & hence lacks reasoning. I wonder why India can’t live without Pakistan. India was there when Pakistan was not there.

    • Maria says:

The last time I checked both India and Pakistan achieved independence from Britain in 1947. Both are modern nations. Take a look at South Asia history. Muslim South Asia was dominant for the last 1000 years before theBritish. Maybe you should say Pakistan was there when India was not there. There have been many nations and empires in South Asia in the past thousands of years. We can learn to live together but we have to respect our differences. Comments like yours indicate why peace is so elusive

      • Manish says:

        Maria,

Referring ancient history is always confusing as there are many versions to it. But it is a fact that before freedom there existed a nation called Hindustan and Pakistan was not even on the map. Pakistan is created out of Hindustan.

      • indian says:

I believe it was East India Company in 1605 and not East Pakistan Company. And the last time I checked I got to know that Allama Iqbal coined the term Pakistan in 1939.There was always a India,Hindustan or Bharat since ages but a Pakistan only in 1947 comprising muslim majority states. And regarding why peace is elusive your comments and a half baked knowledge don’t help either.

        • Qaisrani says:

Dear For your Information, the name “PAKISTAN” Choose in 1933 by Rehmat Ali. How you can relate an old name of PAKISTAN before 1933 ???? Maria was talking about Last 1000 years not the whole history when Muslim Rular Rule in sub-continent.

        • Ashok Sai says:

          Lovely reply dude !!!

  8. surinder Dhupar says:

I read online Indian and Pakistani Newspapers. One thing is clear in my mind that you will find more ‘Indian news’ in Pakistan newspapers than vice versa. It only seems more obvious that you can take Pakistan out of India but you cannot take India out of Pakistan.
Pakistan should focus on other countries on the horizon, not just India. India may not be perfect in many areas but it is better than current situation in Pakistan.

    • Waqar Qureshi says:

I hate to differ my friend, when ever there a blast in India!!! oh Pakistan did it…. When ever Pakistan had a blast can you refer one time that Pakistan said India did it even though there have been many proofs. We at Pakistan understand this Terror its Not the Pakistani’s who are doing it. I am not sure what newspapers you are refering too I haven’t seen this. So kindly next time read quality newspapers. If you want me I can quote many Indian Newspapers filled with misconception about Pakistan.

  9. Nair says:

The very comparison of Pakistan with India is absurd and out of place. Not that my intention is to belittle Pakistan with that remark but, the fact still remains clearly written on the wall for all of us to have an unbridled vision of it. India is concerned only about her development and above all, peace and tranquility in the region in general and India in particular. As an Indian, attacking Pakistan or comparing India to Pakistan are not even my last priority. India has much larger things to do in the international arena than to play Tom & Jerry with Pakistan. We are not against Pakistan or for that matter any other country. All we need is a peaceful life and that’s what our great Indian culture is renowned for through out the history!!!!!

  10. Rahul says:

“aik doosray kay bina bhi chen nahi?” – you live in your own little world. Don’t you?

Indians would be glad to live without you guys.

    • Aamir says:

Rahul…..You got it all wrong, Indians would never be glad to live without us.

      • Prasad says:

There is 50-50 truth. Personally I treat Pakistan as just a separated region from India. Rather another state of India which got freed. But later I think what has happened is that Pakistan is being influenced by few extremists who love to hate India. But in the mean time government of Pakistan has forgotten to check the problems within Pakistan because of which there is terrorism in Pakistan. I am really surprised to see that – In a country full of Muslim population, why some are bombing themselves? Please someone from Pakistan tell me. If some bombing happens in India, some group has a reason KASHMIR. But if bombing happens in Pakistan, what is the reason? Is it being close to Afghanistan/Taliban forces? If yes, why doesn’t Pakistan takes a step forward in taking India’s help in reducing militants in their region? Wouldn’t that be a great step in building relations? I think Kashmir will become a minor issue or it will get resolved if Pakistan sees India as a friend.

      • indian says:

Offcourse we would be…Trouble is the last thing India wants to get into…

  11. Abdul Jabbar says:

India and Pakistan same origin and same culture still long apart. It has been 64 years since independence still could not make peace between each other. I am an Indian (Kerala) Muslim could not understand why keeping the enmity. The main issue so far was Kashmir. Now water problem also has come up. To be frank I don’t see from Indian side they are going to give any dilution of their present status of Kashmir. Even if Pakistan negotiate for another 50 years. No country in the world will give away the land the holding for 64 years.

    May Allah help them.

  12. Sherry Manzoor says:

During my stay in Europe, I have had the opportunity to meet many Indian students. We infact used to cook and eat together. We hardly ever discuss religion except a few occasional and rather extempore queries about something which might have popped up into some one’s mind.

Something which we discuss very frequently over the dinner table is that we live together, eat together, study together, share jokes and ideas.

When we are going about our daily lives, we are common Pakistanis and Indians who have no bad feelings for each other. We respect each others religions. All the friction and the tension that we see in the media has thankfully not yet seeped down to the common person in the street.

But at the same time, there are Indians who wouldn’t wait a millisecond in maligning Pakistan. Who would attribute all the weird things in the world with Pakistan. Who wouldn’t care to check their facts before discussing them with others. I have this personal tendency of over-looking such occasional things. I hope both the Pakistani and the Indian Govts sort out their stuff soon.

  13. Karthik says:

Well India and Pakistan may be bickering like tom and jerry. But it is not true that they cannot live without each other.

Think about this, time is on India’s side. With time the gap between India and Pakistan is only growing wider in every way economically, militarily, politically. If nothing changes in the current situation, things only get better for India.

    • shahab says:

Let’s be realistic and stop comparing each other that’s what the problem with India. WAKE UP

      • apurva says:

        Shahab:

India does not compare itself to Pakistan. India has 29 states, 7 Federal Territories, 17 languages, 7 major religions, and 6 times the population (of Pakistan). What is there to compare? Can Afghanistan compare itself to Pakistan?

        Apurva

      • Gauhar Vatsyayan says:

Dear shahab….. I have traveled to Pakistan many times and I do keep a track of the news in Pakistan. I have observed that Pakistanis are in a false belief that Pakistan is equal in status to India…. The elite and the Journo of Pakistan are in a mode of suppressed anxiety and inferiority whenever the question of comparison comes up whereas the common man on both the sides still has a soft heart for each.

There is no question of comparison neither we people have false pride…. You should mind your own ways.

        Regards
        Gauhar Vatsyayan
