Tell us, tell the Quaid

Tell us, tell the Quaid

Dawn was founded by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In a run-up to his birthday celebrations this year, tell us, and the Quaid, in one sentence how you think Jinnah would have viewed his and our Pakistan today. Please give your name, age, profession and location at the end of your message. For example, “Pakistan is indeed your dream come true.” —Shehla Mirza, 27, physician, Peshawar

A selection of these comments will be published in the Quaid-i-Azam Day (December 25) Special edition of Dawn.

  1. Zahid says:

First, he would have cried and wept. Then he would have gathered the masses once again like he did before and would ask them to bring about a Pakistani Arab Spring- a rebellion against corrupt leaders, the establishment, the mullas, the taliban, injustice, hypocrisy and everything else that is wrong in the country today. He would show the country the truth path of enlightenment and tell them once and for all that his idea of Pakistan was not to create an Islamic state, but a state for the Muslims of the sub-continent (there is a difference), where people from all other religions would also be free to follow their faith.

    Zahid, Economist, 31, Canada.

  2. Raheel says:

After Quaid’s death, all we needed was someone who can carry on his legacy but that wasn’t to happen as we know.

So, by just knowing that not even a single Leader (as we call them landlord in Pakistan) came out and sincerely work for the betterment of his country, would be enough to give him a heart attack.

  4. Asher Bin Asad says:

I have lived in pakistan all my life, and have recently moved to uk for university. People from all over the world come here for a degree and of course we also have a lot of indians too. It brings me great sadness to see how, indians who got there independence with us, and had to cater a large population have actually reached a point where they get much more respect than us. I have felt a certain amount of hate towards us as a nation. I believe its time to neglect what has been done in the past and to move forward with new goals to build a better, more respectful Pakistan. P.s I do not have any problem towards India, but grief to what’s being done to our beautiful nation.

Asher Bin Asad, 21, Student, Exeter (United Kingdom)

  5. Abdul Moeed says:

We second and third generation of Pakistan destroyed Pakistan of Mohmmad Ali Jinah. We care about ourselves, we do not care about Pakistan. I wish all Pakistanis will do what Mohmmad Ali Jinah did for Pakistan, it will be best country in the world soon.

  7. sarmad says:

64 years have been passed and we are walking on a wrong path since our independence. Instead of focusing on our number one enemy the poverty, we are wasting our energies on religious and sectarian issues, suppressing our minorities and do not respect law. We still can make Pakistan a better place if we follow Quid’s vision which he talked about in his speech to constituent assembly of Pakistan on 11th September, 1948. He spoke of an inclusive and impartial government, religious freedom, rule of law and equality for all. He also advocated the separation of religion and state. Let’s do not waste more time and follow the Quid’s vision as other nations are leaving us behind.
    Sarmad Malik, 54, Engineer USA

  15. Imran says:

It is good that Qaid is dead; had he been alive, seeing the present state of Pakistan, he must have died again.

Any how, Pakistanis need to remember that founders of Pakistan were highly educated Muslims with a visions. They hold faith strongly but were open to new ideas.

Presently, Pakistan has to categories of people, 1. so-called educated elite who have nothing to do with Islam and consider it backward 2. Uneducated masses determined to simulate 6th-century society.

Only Allah can rescue Pakistan now.

    Imran, 32, Canada.
