Buner: Swat part deux?

Buner: Swat part deux?

On Thursday, the government announced that eight platoons of paramilitary troops have been sent to Pakistan’s Buner district, which has been infiltrated by the Taliban. Frontier Constabulary platoons have been dispatched to protect government buildings and bridges in Buner. In recent days, Taliban militants have been patrolling the area, snatching and searching vehicles, and ransacking government offices.

After the passage of the Nizam-i-Adl resolution, how will government forces ensure security in Buner and other parts of Malakand? Should Taliban activities in Buner and Shangla be viewed as a violation of the regulation? Are we in for a Swat part deux?

    To: Abbas, Sana, Babar

You forget the complete chain of events related to Sharia enforcement. Taliban had asked the Govt through all peaceful means several times to implement the agreement to implement Sharia in Swat based on the majority of public opinion in those areas. It was a popular demand.

What did the Govt do? Dragged its feet, delayed over the period of months, was caving in under US pressure instead of listening to the citizens of the country. Declared war on Taliban. Killed their kinsmen, destroyed their homes and families.

What will you expect in return from warrior Pashtun nation? Get down on their knees? It is the foolish thinking that fails some people to understand the root cause of this whole problem. Instead they continue to harp on the same old broken tune and the Mantra coming from foreign countries.

Wake up. Smell the roses. Feel the pain of those who have been wrongly labelled as terrorist and what sacrifices they are making to implement Islam in a so called muslim country.

  2. hn says:

Secular democracies have been created and tried many times by many beore Jinnah. His uniqueness was his adventurism in that for the first time some one tried to create secular islamic society. As evidenced by what followed and is being followed it appears that secular islamic society is an oxymoron. You can either be Islamic or secular. Not both.

  3. Babar says:

If we read Quran in a language we understand and apply it our life, we would not be having this discussion.
Islam was not spread by sword, but rather by the example of life style set by Muhammad (PBUH) & His followers of the time.
The example we are setting via Taliban and rest of the fundo’s is not only turning non-muslims, but muslims away from Islam.
Bottom line read Quran yourself in Urdu, English, Pushto, Farsi, Punjabi, etc… and all your questions will be answered. Do not be lazy by listening to the ignorants who give sermons in our mosques urging muslims to kill muslims because they do not have beards or their shalwar is not higher than their ankles.
Islam is the only religion that does not allow clergy, and we especially in Pakistan re so dependent on Clergy of different Fiqhs that we much rather kill another Muslim of a different Fiqh that follow Islam

  4. Sana says:

The problem with these ‘smart muslims’ is the problem of the whole country!
If the taliban were so naive and innocent they wouldn’t have taken over our tribal areas the way they have for beginners.
If these jihadi muslims would like to sacrifice their lives in the name of religion they wouldnt be killing innocent people, why not try to save palestine?
If they believe our people need reformation, there are methods such as education.
Kindly do not call this religion because religion does not fight such petty wars protesting by killing innocent lives.
Pakistan is an independant nation and we have our constitution.
It is disgusting to hear Pakistanis justifying these people.

  5. Sana says:

So the tehreek e nifaz e shariah wanted implementation of the shariah and the Pakistani government could not refuse in the name of religion or maintenance of peace. Could they not have suggested enforcing the shariah themselves instead of giving the rule to these people whose identity itself is questionable?
This is Pakistan and our leader is the Quaid not some random tehreek. Muslim or non muslim, no foreigner has the right to implement their rule in our country. Talking about soverignty against the US, what about the tehreek? The last I saw they had to be interpreted in a foreign language!
I am pretty sure that Islam was not brought by the prophet Muhammed in this manner or there would have been no muslims today.

  6. Girish says:

Murad says: “If they dislike Islam and the Islamic Sharia they should migrate to India or some other non-muslim country where they can get all the secular values. ”

Murad has also shifted to S.A, so what does that imply?

  7. Abbas says:

If you vote for your government then support them. After every terrorist attack when the people of pakistan are interviewed they always seem to blame the government never it seems the terrorists. Why?
If you all stood together and shouted your condemnation for the taliban, the extremists and anyone who would bring violence to pakistan or tries to implement islamic law at the point of a gun, then maybe there would be some hope for what was and for the most part still is a beautiful country.

  8. Murad S, South Africa says:

To: Abdul Mujeeb Khan and others

I will clarify if you have misunderstood my comments once again.

Pakistan was not created as a secular nation. If you think it was, then the sacrifice of millions of Muslims at the time of partition was a complete waste. Why do you need another secular country when you already have India that declared itself as a secular country. After all there are more muslims living in India than Pakistan. Based on this concept it is given that Islam should be correctly and completely implemented as described in Islamic Sharia in Pakistan.

If only we had Islamic minded leaders and rulers then there would not have been any problem or the movement like Taliban.

Having seen the failure of successive Govts for over 50 years and the educated elite in the country failing in their responsibility to help and demand Govt to implement Sharia to bring a moral, non corrupt society and the administration. If only the corruption is eliminated from the country, all its social, economic, infrastructure backwardness issues can be solved. In turn the corruption can never be eliminated without following Islamic Sharia.

This is why you see these people clinging their hold on power, media, illegally acquired wealth, including illiterate masses are in the forefront of opposing Sharia. And they talk filth about Taliban.

The next question is suicide bombing. Why it is happening and if it is Haram?

Suicide bombing is a tool of the weak in a fight against a stronger, well equipped opponent or enemy. No fool will kill himself if he has the same weapons and military strength as his enemy. It is not by choice someone will try to blow himself up. It is the objective of doing greater or equal damage to their enemy at the expense of self sacrifice. This term has been used before in Pakistan as ‘Fidayee Hamla’. Which has never been declared as Haram by the Islamic scholars.

There are among scholars who are not performing any useful function in Pakistan, they are couch potatoes. Having failed in demanding Sharia for the muslim country, they adapted themselves to just giving Khutbas and lectures. Nothing practical or useful action of change comes out of them.

You cannot call Taliban as illiterate. They have learned Quran and their scholars are also well versed in Islamic knowledge.

By labelling them illiterates while they have religious knowledge you open your argument against all the earlier Islamic generation, companions of Prophets of Islam and the Prophet (PBUH) himself.

By the way, Pakistan was destroyed and looted by the so called educated secular leaders who studied in California Berkley, Oxford and Harvard Universities. The best secular universities in the world. But getting such educated leaders didn’t bring any prosperity or development of institutions in Pakistan or did it??

Besides, Allah(SWT) never promised that people who have the best secular education are the inheritors of Paradise in the next world. Then what is all the fuss about Taliban being not educated by the standard of secular criteria? As long as they follow Sharia, that is good enough.

Instead of opposing them, the people and the Govt of Pakistan should take them in confidence, make peace with them, facilitate the correct form of sharia, not just in Swat but across the country including Buner or other FATA regions.

Muslims who oppose Sharia are the apostates and will be the party of Kuffar in the next world.

The killing of these Taliban will without any doubt bring more retaliation in the inner Pakistani cities. Why tread this path of destruction and Kuffar?

Is it so difficult to understand the connee sction between the cause and effect? Those who fail to understand thubsequent retaliation in the inner cities are plain fools and are no-brainers.

  9. lilly says:

    Murad S, South Africa,

I surprised to your point of view. What law you are supporting? The sharia law, which Taliban is trying to implement in entire Pakistan? Pakistan was born as Islamic state, but which also need to supports secularism as per partition agreement. What about other ethnics in society? Demanding millions of rupees in the name of Jaziya to the local people, who lived there for centuries is Islamic? If they can not give it and then just blowing there homes is islamic? Which law you are supporting?

The law which you think it is right for pakistan was written a long time ago. Why talibans are using modern equipment? .I strongly believe that there is no sucide bombing concept back then, then why they do suicide bombing now? This suicide bombing is new and started in after 1970.

World is changed drastically. Human thinking is changed similarly. Are you following the Sharia rule (guidelines), in your family? how you treat women and young girls in your family? if whole world started implementing their own set of laws, then there is no peace in the world.

What talibans do! Looting, goondaism, Radicalism, spreading horror in entire pakistan? Is that Islam? If somebody oppose them then, they do beheads or flogs, Is that Islam? Do you think they know how to open new factories, mines, Companies, businesses, research centers, irregation, other industries, which create jobs and works for common people in Pakistan? I dont think so. Taliban will do only kidnappings and loot all the common people wealth. Once there is no money, then it will try to attack neighboring countries and loot them by kidnapping and threatening.

Taliban main object is to rule the Pakistan(just power) by demanding, threatening and horrifying the people. If taliban can occupy, then It can use nuclear weapons to threat the world and get more money. It is just playing with emotions of common man, who is already confused with durty politics.

Read the news papers everyday, Read the columnists articles and editorials, who use to work in several high level positions, then fed up due to dirty politicians and end up writing articles to educate the people in the society (like you).

  10. Avanti says:

Dawn: ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said its fight against extremism and terrorism was being hampered by ‘capacity gaps’ and regretted that the West was not forthcoming in helping it meet those deficiencies.

Sometimes I wonder what the military’s hidden agenda is. Are they really serious about curbing the terrorism, or are they exploiting it to fill their begging bowl?

One of the largest arimies in the world which is ready to fight even a larger army doesn’t have resources to fight a few hundred militants who have no tanks, planes, helicopters, armoured vehicles, or bombs?

Don’t these brass-holders feel embarrassed in even making claims of lack of resources in dealing with a militant army which lives on the same side of the border?

No wonder terrorism continuues its rise!

Taliban should be given credit of implementing the Sharia whether softly or harshly.

    =========================

Hmmm… did you know that the so called Sharia interpretation of Taliban is for everyone living in swat valley, but it apparently does not apply to the Taliban themselves. They can go around just dragging people out of the houses on the flimsiest of excuses, accuse any one of adultery without any evidence and just execute them on the streets without a trial while the women are screaming “have mercy”. Wow! I guess the Taliban really deserves credit for that, huh?!

  12. hn says:

Mr. Murad keeps harping on how good Sharia is etc. That is besides the point. The point is what Taliban wants to implement is a violation of human rights and will further degrade the quality of Pakistani society. The reason there is nothing to show forth in Pakistan from its democratic experience is that secular democracy as envisioned by Jinnah never took effect. The Army, ISI and the pious kept it from happening by diverting attention to the use of the word Mr. Murad uses such as Kaffirs and the India centric policies. Pakistan never had Pakistan centric policies because for that one needs to separate the concepts of Nation and Religion. I still don’t know why Mr. Murad would not live in a society practicing Sharia.

  14. Abdul Mujeeb Khan says:

    Dear Murad,

Thank you very much for your time to share your thoughts in this forum; you have conveyed bouquet of ideas to explicate your analysis. As long as I was going through your launch, one of the points catches my attention, which you have asserted in subsection of the statement.

You have stated that: (If you are a Muslim then why oppose Shaira. If the problem is with the harsh implementation of the sharia then that is a different story. It is the obligation of the Govt of a Muslim country to implement Sharia in a proper way backed by Muslim scholars with knowledge of Sharia) which is very unclear for me and seems as if bamboozle.

The point is: who allowed Taliban to implement Sharia harshly and whether Sufi Mohd consults from Muslim scholars for terrible violence. If you have checked news paper three days ago almost 200 Alma’s have been declare that suicide bombing is” haram” in Islam. Now tell me please; the group who is committing Haram, we should follow them or we should follow Quran and sunnaha?

I’m strongly condemning violence, whether, that is by Muslims to Muslims or Muslims to followers of any other religion or non Muslims to Muslims. I believe state can pass the bill if state realizes that the use of power is essential for ensuring peace. However, door of the negotiation should always be open from both sides.

  15. Ahmed bin Babar says:

    Back to Mr. Murad…

Keep on killing Mr. Murad if you don’t understand the following verse (among many more) where God’s prophet Mohammed (SAW) has explicitly been advised to convey the message instead of killing, maiming or mobbing those who disagreed or turned away.

“So if they dispute with you (O, Mohammed) say I have submitted myself to Allah in Islam and so have those who follow me. And say to those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and to those who are illiterates (Arab pagans) do you also submit yourselves to Allah in Islam? If they do, they are rightly guided but if they turn away, your duty is only to convey the Message and Allah is All-Seer of (His) slaves”. Surah, al-Imran (17:20).

So now if God Al-mighty wanted to force His Will then He didn’t need to let the devil disagree with Him on day one, He didn’t need to send 124,000 messengers/prophets, He didn’t need to send The Holy Quran in 23 years. He could have cut short everything and there had been no non-believer ever in this Universe.

So do try to understand the wisdom of God which is based on free will to sort out the Pure and the Hypocrites. We are not against Sharia if it comes through consensus and proper (peaceful) source acceptable to all your 72 sects.

I personally don’t believe or belong to any sect and consider myself a simple Muslim who only believe in Allah and His last prophet Mohammed (SAW).

Now the Irish conflict, taken up by you, has predominantly national character and majority of Irish people want to get back the Northern Ireland, occupied by the British mainland, back to the Irish republic.

The African killings are mostly clan-originated with economic motives and have nothing to do with the religion. You should have better understanding (at least) of the very continent where you are domiciled for the last many decades.

We don’t mind where you live, work or die but your contradictory talk about the developed South Africa (regarding its infrastructure) is not the work of extremists (whom you are supporting) but is the achievement of very Euro-invaders whom you dislike whereas your extremist brothers, in Pakistan, are destroying the very infrastructure especially the girl schools built for the current and coming Muslim generations.

By the way did you or your parents move out to South Africa because of gold, diamonds, apartheid or Sharia..? I know the like of you people who moved out from India (pre-partitioned) for better life and to lure the simple Africans like the “Whiteman” did through their apartheid system.

The vast majority of Muslims (including me) don’t approve the western politics of aggression and occupations but they (western powers) do this with the excuse of extremism so we must fight extremism and extremists who provide them (like in Afghanistan) this opportunity (excuse) to invade, occupy and exploit our lands and resources.

Irrespective of the outside world or its pressure we must fight and contain the dark forces of extremism as it is not permitted or encouraged in the Holy Quran, Sunnah or any of the Prophet’s (SAW) known sayings.

Before I conclude I must tell you that if I am Muslim in the eyes of Allah (SWT) then I don’t care or need the approval or appreciation of people like you…

As a pakistani it does not matter who rules the current coalition or Talibs, at least under Taliban rule you are sure there wont be corruption and we will have determination to stand against American power. Our nuclear assets and integrity is at stake today if we continue to divide islam and fight against our own brethren

  17. Murad S, South Africa says:

    To: Ahmed bin Babar

When you say that Hindu extremist don’t kill Hindus, Christian extremists don’t kill Christians, Jewish extremists don’t kill Jews.

You show lack of the knowledge of history.

    1) What happened in Northern Ireland? Whos was killing whom?

    2) Recently Black South African were killing black migrants from neighboring country?

    3) Hutus and Tutsies in Rwanda were both blacks?

But remember that only among muslims aer traitors who sell their brethren and religion are found. Not among Hindus, Jews or Christians.

Have you seen these other religions handing over their co-religionists to other countries like Pakistan did by Selling Muslims to US who ended up in Gitmo Cuba prison. My friend you are either ignorant fool or have a short memory.

Wake up. Read the news every day. When muslims collaborate with foreign occupation forces or oppose Islamic Sharia they become Apostates. Do not tread that path lest you fall into the same category…

  18. Murad S, South Africa says:

AGAIN TO ALL THOSE WHO OPPOSE SHARIA: Ghulam Rajani, Ahmad bin Babar, Koliwe Ndaba, Cape Town etc.

The problem is our lack understanding of the religion. You have been brain-washed by the western media and secular muslims running the media in Pakistan.

I repeat what I said so that these people understand. Islam is a complete way of life, not limited to rituals like most ignorant so called secular Pakistanis think.

If you are a muslim then why oppose Shaira. If the problem is with the harsh implementation of the sharia then that is a different story. It is the obligation of the Govt of a muslim country to implement Sharia in a proper way backed by muslim scholars with knowledge of Sharia.

Taliban should be given credit of implementing the Sharia whether softly or harshly.

It is preferable than the 50+ years of secular laws of Pakistan which has brought nothing but economic and moral ruins and destruction.

Do you have anything to show except the nuclear technology whose founding father your Govt has put in house-arrest under the pressure from the Western Kaffir countries.

Now we see that pressure from Western nations on Pakistan against their main enemy Taliban who are fighting the Western forces in Afghanistan, is having a dent on Pakistani media and turned them against Sharia and Taliban. Is this not called implementation of the foreign agenda? These so called educated secular illiterate (“Parhai Likkhai Jaahils”) Pakistanis also helping in opposing Sharia as you can see in the Dawn Forum?

Go ahead kill your own muslim brothers and very soon these Western countries will also enter in some other pretext and takeover and dismantle all the nuclear weapons from Pakistan. Which of course helps the cause of India and Israel without them firing a single shot.

These crusaders are not going to stop, they know how to make excuses to reach their goals.

They know the rule: “Divide and Conquer.” They have already divided the country and influenced the policies of the Govt and are virtually ruling the country. Only fools (“Parhai Likkhai Jaahils”) will not understand this and consider Taliban as their enemy and not the West.

If Pakistan is backward and cannot provide infrastructure such as other developed countries like South Africa. It is not Taliban’s fault. It is fault of Pakistani nation who over the 50 years of history have failed to put together one single honest Govt. You reap what you sow, then do not blame others who decided to move out of the country.

There is an Ayah in the Quran which says all the earth belongs to Allah (SWT). Muslim do not confine themselves to one country. They can spread out and educate other non-muslims about Islam and give them Dawah. It is therefore permissible to live in any part of the earth that belongs to God.

It was not because of Taliban people moved out, it is because of mediocre minded people like some of those opposing Sharia in this forum who could not start a grass rout movement in Pakistan to help implement the correct form Islamic government based on Sharia.

What Koliwe Ndaba of Cape Town writes shows his ignorance of the history of muslim rule of spain when his kind of people came live under the protection of muslim rulers and the infrastructure they built when the entire Europe was in dark ages.

I went to South Africa when your parents were not even married. Do not speak so highly of South Africa lest you forget what they did to fellow blacks from neighboring African countries and other immigrants few years back. This country is sitting on a volcano which will also erupt soon. You just wait for that time instead of singing the glories of South African secular infrastructure that was build on the brutal regime of apartheid. Nothing to be particularly proud of. Shame on such as hypocrite making statement against Islamic Sharia.

  19. Ahmed bin Babar says:

    They are not from us..!

While we strongly support general Kayani’s recent resolve to counter the extremist surge in Swat and elsewhere we vehemently condemn the statements made by the JI’s leadership which described this move as premature.

It is never premature to cure the spreading cancer (extremism) and it is never premature to stop the killers and kidnappers of our peaceful citizens and guest workers.

We shouldn’t forget the RED MOSQUE tragedy in Islamabad which caused us many precious lives because the extremist elements were not contained well in time.

We are also concerned and frequently condemn the American drone attacks but these extremists have inflicted three times more deaths through their suicide bombings of innocent civilians throughout Pakistan.

Why the JI and other religious outfits are silent and don’t take out processions and condemn these horrible acts and actors?

Indeed dialogue is a decent deed but it is only meant for the decent and understanding people, not for those who are a clear threat to our lives & properties.

We are pashtun and know, by birth, how to handle a gun so these extremists shouldn’t play with our patience, tables can be turned and the peaceful pashtun majority can be transformed into full scale lava of revenge.

There are Hindu extremists but they don’t kill their fellow Hindus, there are Jewish extremists but they don’t kill their fellow Jews, there are Christian extremists but they don’t kill their fellow Christians but unfortunately in the whole world it is only these bloodthirsty predators (who represent one particular sect) that kill their own Muslim brothers & sisters in the name of Islam, Why?

So we hope this time our security forces finish their job and let no “extremist” live and breathe on our sacred soil…!

    Dear Murad S,
I would like to take my family and move to South Africa and you can come here and live in SWAT and practice Sharia. Your wife, sisters, daughters will not be allowed to go out of the house to buy vegetables or they will be flogged. You better be prepared to grow a long beard when you come and be prepared to send your sons, brothers etc. to Madrassas everyday and have them trained for some suicide missions. No Mathametics,Science,Urdu literature or English for them.
As far as some bad elements of the west like same sex marriage etc, are concerned, only 0000001% of the people there even prescribe to such.
People of Pakistan are by and large pious well meaning and peace loving. They are good muslims and will be loved by God and the Prophet (PBUH) long before the murderous thugs who force sharia on the innocent hard working souls of this unfortunate land.

  21. hn says:

To those who support what Taliban wants to implement is Pakistan like “Murad S”:
Would you bring up your children under Taliban’s version of Sharia? Would you deny your girl child an education or medical care? Clearly that is in the Taliban’s agenda. I have noticed that some of you live in secular democracies but recommend sharia for those left behind. Why do so when you have a choice to live under Taliban’s sharia?

  22. Proud Pakistani says:

    Assalam Alaikum
My respected brothers and sisters in Islam. I totally agree with you brother murad, it is a Islamic Republic. The laws should be govern by the rule of Allah. I do not understand why we are falling into the hands of the west, when we all know where it will take us. I think everone in Pakistan should be given a chance to visit the west and see for themselves what values and morales Americans or the Europeans live along. We have build hatred among each other. Which is mostly the faults of our elders. Almost 80 % of our youth is uneducated in the matters of the world or Islam. Furthermore, 10 % want to mordenize Pakistan in a way that we are comparable to the west, which is a joke. Moreover, 8 % who are highly educated will either leave the nation for more money or won’t even come back to Pakistan. Last but not least, 2% or our youth has an understanding of Islam and the knowledge of the world. So the ratio comes down to 2/100. The problem is we will read the Qur’an and Pray Namaz in Arabic, but most of us are doing it regardless of understanding it properly. Muslims ruled half of the world by their knowledge of Islam. We have build the finest universities and libraries under Ottoman Empire. We can do it again, the problem is their goals were to prosper Islam and majority of our goals are selfish. We all need to read The Economic system by Taqiuddin-an-nabhani. May Allah bless us All and may we prosper in the shade of Quran and Sunnah. Ameen, Sum Ameen. Allah Hafiz my respected brothers and sisters.

  23. Koliwe Ndaba, Cape Town says:

    dear murad from south africa,

You are asking all Pakistanis who oppose the imposition of Sharia to migrate to a secular country. When I checked the last time, your country of residence (and my country as well) – South Africa – was a secular country and not an Islamic Republic. If you are very much for the imposition for the imposition of Sharia and you like it very much, why are you not shifting your base to Swat valley, where you can enjoy Sharia to your fullest satisfaction.

You are basically a hypocrite, you want to enjoy all the good things and liberal values provided by a Secular country but at the same time you want the imposition of 1500 year old laws to be imposed on hapless people of Pakistan.

What a shame? By seeing attitude of people like you, I am afraid, one day I will have to leave under Sharia in Cape Town.

  25. Ajeeth, india says:

Pakistan is the first nation to recognize Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan saying there are implementing actual islamic rule. Then why not allow them to take over pakistan and implement the same law. How can the same group be good for another country but not for their own.
