What do you think of the reportedly low key response in Germany?

Marwa al-Sherbini, a 31-year-old Egyptian woman, was stabbed to death by her neighbour Axel W in a courtroom in Dresden, Germany. Marwa, about four months pregnant, wore the head scarf and was involved in a court case against Alex for calling her a terrorist. She was set to testify against him when Alex stabbed her 18 times in front of her three-year-old son and half a dozen German police officers.

The killing has dominated Egyptian media for days but has received comparatively little coverage in German and Western media.

    Justified outburst.

But I am willing to bet that most Pakistani’s and Asian in Germany will regard the German police more even handed and efficient than in Asia.

Now this doesn’t mean that this incident shouldn’t be deplored – this does demand that ones looks in the mirror first before making too much of a couple of incidents.

What is integration in a society, you cannot go to a totally foreign country and live like you lived in your country of origin. Integration means to be like the people around you ‘do in Rome as the Roman do, not Romanian do’. In my opinion, if you can not integrate and want to maintain your origin than do not migrate, then I believe you should stay in your country of origin. It is not matter of religion its the culture you have to integrate into.

Another Sad state of affairs, we quickly start pointing fingers at Western Media and Anti-Islamic influences but what we fail to consider is that the women had the right to actually challenge the person in court. How often do we allow free and fair trials for minorities in our countries?
He was an extremist and our society is full of them as well.

N.B I am not saying the media isn’t biased but just that they are not as bad as we portray them to be, definitely better than our media…

  4. Aslam says:

The image of Muslims has been sullied in the West because we allow the extremists to represent us as our spokes people.
This has to change. We must make efforts to make the Westerners believe that Muslims love and respect the West for their freedom and success. That is the reason we are their, not for some kind of Jihad in their society.

Also, visual differences accompanied by an attitude of superiority is insulting. Show respect by embracing their culture.

For the lapse of security? it was a minor case before stabbing happend. now it is a major case so they deal it like this way.
From what I believe, Marwa have sued him for coments he made on her by telling her (…) in children play ground, she went to court to give her statement on the issúe. There was no security as it is not normal in Germany. The man have no previous crimnal record. He have shown no intention to do such thing. The police was not there as it was low profile case in lower court (landesgricht) so it was just like magistrate case in pakistan and there for small fight between neighbours or etc need not to be under high security.

The sad part is that she was killed by a cold killer the court room in the presence of a judge and police officers when she was ready to testify against him. It indicates a possible problem in the German court system where the defendant and the assailant are not protected by law enforcement officials. How did he get so close to the victim and stabbed her 18 times and her husband 4 times when he came to her aid. The husband is in critical condition in the hospital who was a few days away to present his thesis on genetic engineering. Why the police did not shoot the assailant? Why there is no inquiry into this incident and the responsible officers are not suspended.

She was not the first one ignored by the western media, in my opinion. Look at the arrest of Pakistani students in UK on suspicion of involvement in a big terror plot without any evidence. During Bush presidency in 2003, 28 Pakistanis were arrested on planning terror attacks in Italy and later released by the court for lack of any evidence. The Pakistanis were arrested after the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi pledged his support for the US war against terrorism during his visit to Washington.

The lack of outrage over the incident by German politicians makes me feel that hate crimes, racism and anti-Islam feelings are present amongst some segments of German society. I am wondering how much time law enforcement officials have spent on learning diversity, prejudice, racism and hate crimes.

  7. Vishal says:

You are all asking the wrong question. It is not that Muslims are unable to integrate, but that they are not allowed to integrate.

You all mention a free society… why not extend it to the Muslim community. If you expect Muslims to completely revoke their ways and cultures for yours, then how are we tolerating as a society?

  8. naveed khan says:

    to my german friend

if this incident was a result of pure security failure then im sure that everyone would like to see justice being done. justice not only against the man who committed the offense but to everyone who was negligent and everyone who caused this lapse in the security.

  9. Afnan Shah says:

Me being a Muslim could never figure out why it is so difficult for us to accept the truth… Amongst us there are some who are hypocrites. we want Non-Muslim to to dress up properly when they come to our country…show respect to our culture, Religion etc etc…but why do we don’t follow the same rules in their countries ??? .. they mostly come to visit and leave.. many of us on the other hand either dessert our country for economic reasons or are forced out on some ridiculous reasons and seek refuge in their countries… and then live their…study there..earn there…and above all even want their nationality.. then we should learn to live like them.

  10. reformist says:

The basic problem with many members of the muslim community living in the western world is that they love living in the western world without following their norms. When any western women goes to Saudi arabia or any other muslim country she follows the rules of that country..not the one from her own country.

  11. Nauman says:

    AOA every body,
It is very sad news. I am not sure about other western media but german media have give coverage to the incident. They are still keeping it up by interviewing the thoughts of brother of Marwa(the lady stabbed in Dresden). I beleive the justice will be done. Moreover here in germany mostly police posses no weapon inside the Court and this incident happens inside the court room. The man have insulted the lady and she have sue him for this insult and they were in court to defend themselves.
It is indeed very sad but i personaly beleive the court will deal it same as it happens in other way around.

  12. abraham haque says:

Is it any different than Pakistan when smeone of Muslim faith murders or they burn churhces and schools? What goes around comes around.

  13. Afnan Shah says:

In my view, I feel that there will always be a conflict between Muslim and Non-Muslims. It’s Sad that this incident took place.. and the Guy should be punished, but then a thousand more take place in Muslim countries and no Muslim make a big deal out of it.

  14. CJ says:

Its a heinous crime no doubt. I feel that Muslims are not welcome in Europe and elsewhere as they come to europe to escape their own freedomless societies. once here, i think that many of them dont adapt to their new home but try to impose their own narrow version of religion on others. They should learn to respect others cultures and religions.

  15. chengara says:

Sady a tragedy happened since our court & security system are so lapse, as some prisoners escapes. Such incidence happens all over the world, but it is not any religious hatred, is of personal one,an absolute security failure. Any loss of life is regretable, but can learn a lesson. We are a free society of tolerance, but no exception of tragic events.

  16. naveed khan says:

im afraid I think i know whats going to happen to the murderer. he’ll be charged with murder but he will either get a complete acquital from this offense because his lawyers might argue that he was ‘provoked’ on the other hand if his lawyers are not so lucky, then I think they might prove him insane. in that case, he’ll be kept in a hospital for a few years and released thereafter. a sad story.

  17. Adnan Anwar says:

The stabber must pay for his crime, there should be no remorse.

  18. ali says:

i am shocked how did this german manage to carry a knife and stab him in court?????

  19. naveed khan says:

well every media gives coverage to those topics that interest them and those topics that are parallel to their views. although this is a bias present in every media but its apparent more clearly in such events when for example a murder or other criminal offense is committed by a person from muslim community compared to the coverage they give to the news of a murder committed by a non muslim especially of a person from the muslim community.
i believe the western media is very biased and very controlled by their respective governments.

  20. Amjad Hussain says:

This is because of the so-called Islamic movements like that of Taliban and Al-Qaida who have distorted the image of Islam and Muslims to that extent that some in the west consider all Muslims terrorists.

  21. Hanif Ghaniwala says:

I was saddened to read this story. I agree with all the comments made by others. It is absolutely a double standard by so called democratic and liberal western society. I have been surfing on Internet for hot news but this was down played by western media. Western media is always bias about publishing the news that tarnishes the image of western world.

I think we should encourage our kids to take part in journalism field, so our is voice heard in world media.

  22. ibn-e-saad afghani says:

the german police and court should make justice with the innocent family.

  23. Niazi says:

What were cops doing?? It’s our fault we have made ourself so weak and everyone is taking advantage.

  24. I am sure many westerners will turn a blind eye to this kind of barbarism. It appears as though some only see wrongs with Muslims, no matter the brutal killing was committed in the court of law where she was seeking justice.

  25. Alethia says:

It is so sad and shocking that this woman was murdered in full view of police officials and right in a court of law! And it doesn’t help that the president of France, Mr. Sarkozy, had just earlier launched a tirade against Muslim women wearing the burqa. This kind of talk encourages Islamophobia and has a ripple effect across Europe and across the world. Muslims, and indeed, all people, should be free to dress the way they like.
