Pakistan captain Younis Khan has resigned from his post, citing the match-fixing allegations and constant meddling of affairs as the reasons. While we await the response of Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt, Dawn.com invites its readers to voice their opinion on this breaking news.
And I agree with Zeeshan. The team should protest over the baseless allegations put on the team by Dasti.
for God’s sake, please give them a break!
I really admire Pakistani Cricket team for giving us so much of the happiness in last few months with their phenomenal performance in T-20 Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. Winning or Loosing is a part of game. Ups and downs do come. But still the team rocks now. Younis Khan’s performance wasn’t that good, but still in his captaincy Pakistani team played excellent.
~ Way to go Younis Khan and Pakistan Cricket Team ~
A bad decision by Younis Khan. Being a captian he must be accountable and should have the courage and wisdom to repond to allegations. Retaliation shows that he is not mature enough to lead pakistani squad.
After a period of sheer dissapointment, we had someone who appeared to have the authority and vision to atleast try and make the team believe in itself and play as a unit…victory and loss is all a big part of the game, but it was unbelievable to see Pakistan win the T20 and almost take the Icc Ch trophy as well. Many Pakistanis have no tolerance and know of nothing else except criricise. The board has been plagued with inefficiencies, political maneouvering, corruption, fat cats, an extreme dearth of professionalism and vision; therefore, it makes one sad and angry when such people think they have the right to raise fingers at a team that is finally clawing some dignity back for the country.
Younis should stay as captain; no question about it. But having said that, he must be able to take the pressure that comes with the job and more importantly he must improve and lead from the front when it comes to batting. he is surely doing nobody any favors by not making his bat count.
Politicians stop butting in cricket! You have made a mess of everything else in Pakistan, at least please let us enjoy cricket. Younis Khan is a honorable man and a true patriot. He is the best captain since Imran Khan. So please leave us alone!
Younis Khan did the right thing. Mr. Dasti has no right to make such allegations without any evidence to prove. I think our politician should stay out of sports, specially cricket.
Can anyone tell me where is Patron-in-chief of the PCB. Why have we not heard any thing from him.
Its disgusting how a politician can make such allegations against younus khan. Politicians who are indulged in so much corruption themselves have no right to blame anybody without evidence. He should be ashamed of himself and apologize to Younus khan.
A leader has to face such criticism, so Younis Khan act like one. There is no need to resign.
Learn from this experience, and go on to win more matches for Pakistan as captain than as a player of this Pakistani team.
Well i find the politicians to be persons who are unable to do their businesses well enough so they poke their noses into the cricket matters..i do not find any reasonable basis as to accusation and as to how the cricket captain becomes accountable to corrupt politicians, who are the biggest problem of this poor country!
For those of you who know about cricket and how it is played, should ask the following question.
if no match fixing was involved then why did younis khan choose to bat on a wicket where the fielding sides had won, during the champions trophy.
even the sky commentators stated who ever wins the toss will win the match, that is the kind of pitch it is.
so yunus khan has to answer why he batted first on a pitch that favoured the sides bowling first, its a simple question.
I would have thought the interests of a nation came before any person or persons gain.
World is and should be result oriented. His performance even as a player has deteriorated over time.He cannot lead from the front and does not have the qualities of a good captain now. One should face allegations and must perform. Some more players need to get retirement. We need a young , energetic ans psychologically strong players.
A lot of comments asking for Younus to take the resignation back and Dasti to apologize.
What a mockery of affairs in such a wonderful country by bunch of incompetent individuals.
I believe it is the responsibility of Patron of Pakistan Circket (The President of Pakistan) to make all parties involved and responsible of maligning the name of the country in the world by accusing each other and take them to the task.
If he (The President) is not available to handle it and have a lot on his plate then he should also step aside and let the cricket related issues handled by someone who is really competent.
Long Live Pak & Pak Cricket
Dasti has to publicly appologize and resign from standing comittee chairmanship. it seems he has no clue wat to do and wat to say. Furthermore with all the problem Pakistan facing I would like to know why we have standing comittee probing cricket? Shouldn’t the parliment be doing something to alleviate the suffering of Pakistani people instead of this non-issue. This once again show the incompetence of elected members.
Its a pity Younis had to resign from Capitancy. A true loss to Pakistan Cricket.
On the otherhand, being a well respected and honourable person, it was a right decision.
What would our politicians know about respect and honour??
Accountability is good. But selected accountability is bad. If the parliamentarians have evidence against our national team, they must made it public OR produce themselves in the Supreme Court of Law for insulting the national cricket team of Pakistan. This will complete the accountability cycle.
If within next 24 hours, the honourable parliament committee who called this enquiry is unable to give a concrete report to the entire satisfaction of the billions of cricket fans in Pakistan, the Supreme Court of Pakistan should take a suo-moto action and called them in the court of law for:
(i) Defaming the Pakistani national cricketers.
(ii) Falsely blaming the character of Pakistani cricketers.
(iii) Creating doubts about the integrity of Pakistani people.
(iv) Encouraging and propagating false blames of match fixing on Pakistan team.
Last time we lost the honour of being the World Cup host, due to sudden attack on Sri Lankan Cricketers by terrorists. This time we might lose the right to play cricket due to kind acts of our parliament.
Seriously, match fixing when the team reaches the semi and wins the T20 wordlcup… cut these guys some slack they worked hard … someone has to loose! lets see our parliament do something good for a change
All we need is Jamshed Dasti’s resignation who has created this saga, for calling the honourable men for grilling after providing the world with enough material to ridicule pakistan and the team.
Strongly condemnable act by Dasti
It is a great pity for world cricket as well as Pakistan cricket. Hope better sense prevails from all concerned.
it is very sad to know, younis has resigned well… our politician interfere in cricket even they know nothing about cricket. before come up with huge allegation first they must give proof what they did say.
Come on Team Pakistan, stand up with your Captain & resign in protest, if we allow Dasti to get away this time, he will keep hurting our national pride one way or another.
Can anyone come up with an effective way of protest, we have to stand with Younus.
Boom Boom.
This is absurd! No one blames the pakistani team for losing the champions trophy atleast not the people who matter i.e the fans! it was an awesome tournament and ofcourse we would have wanted pakistan in the final but pakistan team did its job : won over india.i would have asked nothing else from them.
Younis Khan should not resign in protest at all,he shouldn let dasti think he got to him. No one can captain this team as well as younis in recent times. This is so crazy, politicians should leave cricket alone! its the only thing these days that unites us,excites us, and for a while makes us blissfully ignorant about the turmoil in the country.
Younis Khan if you ever see this i want you to know on the behalf of all Pakistanis: we love you! now take the job back!
Well done Younis. You took an absolute Right stand. This standing committee should now answer to nation about their false accusation against Honesty and Integrity of the Cricketer. Do they have any evidence or was it simple a ‘False accusation’. Accusing someone is a serious crime. Prove it about the match-fixing.
Not only Dasti abut the entire standing committee and the pariament is answerable in front of the public. I want Media, not to spare these politicians alone. It seems they are there to destroy every honest person and institutions in this country.
We want Dasti to publicly apologize for his incompetence and resign immediately…
