That’s Dr. Malik for you

That’s Dr. Malik for you

First it was the Sitara-e-Imtiaz awards that our government gave out so generously to numerous people that barely deserved them. Now, we are faced with the reality of knowing that our very own Interior Minister Rehman Malik has received an honourary degree of Doctorate from the Karachi University.

What’s more shocking than the fact that Malik is now Dr. Malik, is the reason given to explain why he was chosen: The degree has been awarded in recognition of his “matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to the citizens of Karachi.”

The fact that thousands have died in the war on terror and are still dying seems to not matter here. The fact that Karachi has lost hundreds in target killings under Malik’s reign also does not seem to make a difference.

What seems to be the most disturbing thought on this news however remains, who actually believes Malik has made any kind of positive impact to Pakistan’s security situation?

More importantly, how could Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad assess that “Malik’s efforts against terrorism and valuable help in maintaining law and order in Karachi are known to everyone.”

If that’s true, then could it be possible that we are all simply oblivious to the great man Dr. Malik just might be under that cloak of failures that he wears?

  10. Faisal L. says:

SHAME ON YOU KARACHI UNIVERSITY. I feel bad for those who attend KU.

  11. This is why world do not recognise our degreessssssssssssssssssssss!!!

  12. Muhammad says:

Karachi University’s decision of awarding doctorate (knowingly) to a non-qualified person undermines the genuine efforts of those who have put their lives in pursuing the true academic credentials through that institution.

  13. asad says:

    This is disgusting !

  14. God save Doctorate !!!

  15. Ahmad Ali Shah says:

Is this the integrity of an Institution like KU?? Our VC and Teacher should have resist this decision and this question of their integrity and standing as well. shame shame

  18. Aamir says:

I feel ashamed of being a graduate today.

  19. Rashid says:

University of Karachi is useless and printing machine of fake degrees and fake certificates.

  20. Tamilselvan says:

Another similarities between our countries. We also confer degrees to useless politicians, actors etc.
In fact some of the most corrupt chielf ministers have been awared doctorate degrees.

  21. Hassan says:

Only in Pakistan things this like this happen and peoplelike him get degrees. I am glad not to have my degree from institution like KU.

  22. Tahir Baluch says:

Ha! You know whose having the loudest laugh in all of this?
Chief Minister Raisani. We all laughed at him and ridiculed him for his famous statement:
“Degree degree hoti hey, jali ho ya asli!”

I guess he knew better. Asli degree of “PhD for Peace” means the same exact thing as some counterfeit degree from a small little fake-degree warehouse.

  23. Nino says:

Another pathetic evet in the history of Karachi. Not besause Malik does not even remotely deserve it
but I used to think that educationalists and intelectual integrity have a relationship. Yet another sad day for Karachiites. When the three in the picture were smiling, nature too must be smiling at our character.
Thank you K.U. for my conversion to pessimism !!

  24. This regime (Zardari & partners) is set to break all records of shamlessness.

  25. Qalim says:

“…..could it be possible that we are all simply oblivious to the great man Dr. Malik just might be under that cloak of failures that he wears?”

He certainly is no Spiderman as per his own admission…..perhaps someone can suggest other possibilities.

More worrying is the KU syndicate approving this honour – Oxford University refused honourary degree to Mrs Thatcher for her education policy but KU provides the honour to RM for his ‘successful’ Karachi policy I guess!
