On Friday, Pakistan celebrates the sixty-second anniversary of its independence. Recently, the country has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Terrorism, communal violence and the economic and energy crises dominate headlines. But the resilience of the nation and its people has been expressed again and again – through a nationwide consensus against militancy, a national movement in favour of a free judiciary, a much-needed Twenty20 win, the generosity of host families in the face of mass displacement, and new initiatives to protect women’s and minorities’ rights.
In these trying yet optimistic times, what is your prayer for Pakistan? How do you serve your nation in an effort to make it the country you wish it could be? And where do you hope to see your country in another 20, 30, or 100 years?

When even Intelletuals at university levels have mind set of denial and keep seeing phantom outsiders responsible for all the Pakistan’s turmoil, what hope is there for the masses to see the truth?
Even the favourite pass time of so many less than sub standard TV channels is to spew hate and blame others.

Prayers have no meaning if it is not followed by the acts blessed by god.
Pakistan has to set its action towards peace not only internally but towards others. Violence is a double edged sword and with the current experience hope they have learned.
If not for the fool who do not learn lessons from history, history repeats itself.
AS YOU SOW, SO YOU REAP. It is eternal. Nobody can cheat the same for a long time before the divine providence.

I just want to bring out the dilemma associated with our politicians which is that they are just concerned about their own politics and party or personal interests. Pakistan needs the scholars and technocrats to come forward and save the country in this times of crisis. External forces in conjuction with corrupt officials want to fail Pakistan as a state. Unfortunately our elected representatives consider themselves above the law and masters not servants to the nation. All politicians should be removed and national scholars.

Pakistan’s salvation lies in economic development. The people of Pakistan are tired of extremist agenda’s some of the organizations are trying to impose. These extremist must be eliminated as they have done great harm to Pakistan. Pakistan must develop friendly relations with all neighbors. Neighbors like India and China must be treated as an economic opportunity and market of one billions plus people. Pakistan should and must take advantage of central geographic location and become the economic hub of Asia.

Dear Brothers in Pakistan,
The Berlin wall started coming down on the 9thNovember. I wonder when shall the wall of 1947 come down. When shall we begin to see the world with new eyes? When will we stop considering India-pakistan as estranged?. It is time when the world is uniting, we should give peace an opportunity and we may let the borders remain if you so please but lets make them irrelevant. Lets grow together economically and culturally. If there are two people who talk the same language, eat the same food, appreciate the same poetry it is the Indians and Pakistanis. Come on young ones, its out time, let not the old misconceptions stand in our way. We both have a long way to go!

Pakistan is becoming epicenter for terrorism. Soon it will become a failed state. Allah save this country from the rulers and the Terrorists

God Bless Pakistan. May God bless Pakistan with great wisdom and protect it from harms way emanating from within and with out.
May God Almighty save the Nation from madness – Putting Ex-President Musharraf on trial as some have suggested is pure insanity. This is no time to waste the country’s resources on something as ridiculous as those who seek revenge against him. Musharraf was a true Patriot and in some very difficult times he saved Pakistan from being bombed to the Stone Age…have people forgotten the big utimatum he received. May God bless Pakistan with peace and prosperity.
Aameen.

The expansion of the US embassy and introduction of Blackwater/Xe in Pakistan is very alarming. Blackwater/Xe is a rogue organization. It conducts itself above the law including US. It has blood on its hand of innocent Iraqis. There will be huge problems of law and order if this company is allowed to operate inside Pakistan.
Beware of expanded embassies. They are designed to protect the interest of the guest, not necessarily Pakistan. While I welcome more engagement between US and Pakistan, it should be done through other channels. Inclusion of actors like Blackwater/Xe will never serve Pakistan’s interest.
Pakistani politicians including the present government in particular are very corrupt and incompetent. They should not be allowed to sell off their country.
Do something before we get pulled into anohter crisis.
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:21 pm
This is timely prayer for Pakistan.
May Allah give wisdom to Pakistani leaders who are all out to divide Pakistanis by putting Ex-President Parvez Musharraf on trial for treason. They have no idea what good they will achieve from it, except revenge.
Parvez Musharraf may be a worst person in the eyes of many Pakistanis but they should give him the credit of saving Pakisan from Americans who could have bombarded Pakistan and flattened it the same way as they did to Afghanistan because they believed Bin Laden and Mullah Omer were hiding in Pakistan and Pakistan was unable to locate them and hand them over to America. Musharraf joined America in war on terror to save Pakistan, no question about it.

We must pray for the progress, prosperity and unity of our beloved country but Allah has given the people the reason to solve their problems and to differentiate between good and bad and to chose correct path.
August 16th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
To answer the question directly. I hope Pakistan becomes a true “land of the pure”. Not in the religious bigoted sense but one where its people are truly free to exercise choice, dream of a decent life for themselves and the coming generations and where opportunity is the direct result of dream, work and achieve. Where education is the prime objective of the nation and the children of the country are seen as an investment into the future. Live free, exercise choice and certainly make friends not enemies. A tall order but then you asked!
August 16th, 2009 at 10:37 am
I pray that we put the following on our “to do” list:
a) become democratic
b) become a nation of law abiding citizens
c) make peace with our neighbors
d) become secular
e) become prosperous down to the bottom level
It is unlikely that we will become ALL of the above.
But, if we can become even ONE, that may be our last chance…

“Lord, please save me from your followers.”
August 15th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Although its matter of pleasure that we r here on the map of world since 62 years, but we should now come out of this and analyze our current situation in order to make our future certain.
If Europe after second world war can reunite then why not all the countries of Asia can form a Asian Union. We should learn things from all around the world and then try to implement those for the best interest of whole nation. This is the Key for long term success.

Why does Pakistan need Prayers? Has it exhausted the deeds of its people?
If one needs to pray for help, then one has bigger problems. God or Allah helps those who help themselves. Do the work instead of praying. All the prayers in the world will not help, nor grow crops. But sowing the seeds will. You reap what you sow.
So start sowing the right crops instead of praying for a harvest without even looking at the seeds.

Dear Pakistan Citizens,
Wish all the pakistanis a great independence day!!!
We from India are not your enemies. We want you to be a modern thriving economy. If the ties between the countries improve, it will be good for both the countries. Many companies from India will come to Pakistan and set up business there and vice versa. Our only concern on Pakistan comes when we hear bomb blasts, killings etc in some parts of India. Otherwise we never felt any bad impression on Pakistan nation. In any case we know that Pakistan people are great!

Sathyajit

Rule of law is the essence of freedom and properity for the people and the nation.
May Allah guide our leaders to streghen our constitutional institution and govern with honesty and integrity which is lacking nowadays and must make sure no one is above law.
God bless Pakistan.

Like any patriotic Pakistani, my prayers are all for my beloved country. But I ask one question to everyone, is it only prayers that are enough for the well being of our country. What are our actions to emphasize upon our prayers. It is a very lukewarm way of showing ones committment towards ones homeland. When we talk of prayers we try to pass on our responsibility to Allah (SWT) and my belief is that even if we dont prayer Allah (SWT) will shower his blessing on every of his creatures and we are one of them. Has anybody asks himself what he/she has done for the betterment of this god gifted country. I strongly believe that my right is somebody else duty and vice versa. The problem occurs when this chain gets broken. On this occassion we may call ourselves Pakistanis, but actually we are not, instead we are a disintegrated lot who pursue their ambitions not Pakistan as a base rather their own divided identity.
My only prayer to Allah (SWT) is to unite all Paistanis as a one nation (though we always say but dont do it) Allah (SWT) is enough to take care of Pakistan.
August 14th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
I pray that at least now we realise the basis on which Pakistan was founded. It was a secular state where everyone will be allowed to practice what one believed in and not what others would force you to. I am an alleged minority, a status forced upon me by the consitution, and I know what it feels like to be treated as a minority. I understand Pakistan people in general are moderate but don’t know what happens to them when they are incited by extremists that they become monsters who would kill anyone in the name of religion. I pray again that we become true believers and let people live in freedom and harmony.
August 14th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I pray that each and every citizen of Pakistan, irrespective of their age and occupation starts to realise their own dutites. I pray we start to respect and sincerely perfrom the duties as a student, teacher, employee, employer or what ever role we are in. We spend more time to deliberate how can we do our work best rather how others should perform their work. I pray that each one of us begins to atleast own our areas, muhallahs and cities and stop delegating responsibilities.
If that happensm inshallah I wont have to wait for 30 or 50 years but within 10 years Pakistan can become a true symbol of success.
August 14th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
I pray to God for a strong Pakistan.I firmly believe If our neighbours atr happy we ll be happy.
I also peay to God our relationships must improve and I am looking forward for a future where Indians go to Lahore * Karachi for Shopping and Holidays & Pakistanis come to Delhi & Mumbai for the same
My best wishes on this to my Pakistani Brothers & Sisters
Best Regards

We are in shattered psychologically, emotionally and mentally at this day of independence. But it is breath to accept challenge what we are having……..we shall fight to honour that breath….we shall meet our all challenges and prove in the world that we are in the row ……

My best wishes to the people of Pakistan. As an Indian I feel that we have too much in common, but instead of cherishing common heritage both the countries keep themselves busy finding differences.
Hoping this would change in the coming years!
Happy Birthday Pakistan!
August 14th, 2009 at 11:40 am
My Pakistani Brothers & Sisters,
I wish you a Happy Independence Day.
We have a lot in common – we share our history; our struggle for independence and vigour to stand shoulder to shoulder with the West despite all problems. My friends, in this time of celebration, I’m standing beside you and wishing for only two things that a nation requires – peace and prosperity.

August 14th, 2009 at 11:33 am
I pray that the spirit that we show on every August 14th, remains strong on August 15th and onward thru out the year till the next August 14th….
Showing Unity, everyday, and not just one day. Showing loyalty, by action and not just words. This can be done in many number of ways, obeying traffic laws, working hard and honestly in our jobs as adults, and working honestly during the school days.
We have to work on it everyday. We reap tomorrow the benefits from the seeds that we sow today, and everyday.
We have to monitor our next generation from the day they are born, and instill in them honesty from the start. To encourage them to be creative, use science and logic, respect the motherland, value its religion, and love one another. Only by example can we teach our children to be honest.
If our next generation turns out to be just the same as we are today, it won’t be their fault but ours. We need to set an example for the children, by practically showing them what respect is, what unity is, and what hard work is.
If we want a better tomorrow, collectively each and everyone of us need to stop our bad habits today, cheating, hyporacracy, not obeying the laws, using un-civil language, using religion as a tool of convenience whenever it suits us.
May Allah (S.W.T), guide us all, and make us realize where we are going wrong, not just leader, but each and everyone of us is responsible for the state our country is in today, afterall the leader come from within our society, they are the mirror of who we all have become.
We have the capacity to change, and hope is what makes the world go round. Till next August 14th, hopefully we all have made some positive changes within us. An ocean is made up of tiny droplets of water, and the purity of the ocean depends on purity of each and every droplet, we are the droplets of Pakistan, each and everyone of us.
So we all need to change for the better, so that a clean and prosperous Pakistan emerges. Do not wait for the others, or the leaders to change, change yourself for the better. Ameen.
August 14th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Happy Birthday Pakistan.
We love you, still love you & will continue loving you.
You’re 62 today. Quite an achievement after what you’ve gone thru from your own mistakes & those thrust on you. Again thru the connivance, intrigue & irresponsibility of persons claiming the right to legislate (without paying taxes, defaulting on loans, gun running, drug smuggling, honor killing, racism and depriving the citizens of education & health care).
No problem my love, out of 160/170 million only 2.5 million pay taxes the chunk of which is paid by 1.8 million salaried individuals. Dont worry it will INSHALLAH go up but please dont beg the IMF & World Bank to write off the loans the GoP is unwilling to pay back.
Dont fret. Time & Tide wait for no one. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE, DONT RESIST IT.
August 14th, 2009 at 11:21 am
I wish people keep religion at home.Pray at home.Do not commercilise religion for personel gain.

August 14th, 2009 at 5:50 am
if theres no action.. theres no reaction.. .all i see is a bunch of idealized patriotic people praying and hope… well my dear friends.. prayers and hopes can only do so much.. wake up..wake up to the reality.. smell the coffee.. the burning pot.. wake up and realize that even God doesnt help those who do not try to help themselves first.
the truth is.. we need a massive overhaul.. of unsizeable proportions.. we need to have our current politicians and our ccrrupt talibans stand ina line and make an example of them.. any one that ever stole a penny oughta be made and example of .. anyone that put primary interests over collective interests needs to be made an example of…
we will no let a fly squat in our house.. but spit our pans on every nooka that we can.. we need to be made an example of..
u can pray to eternity.. with people like us.. pakistan is not going anywhere.. it will always be a bundle of unfulfilled potential.. nothin more
August 14th, 2009 at 5:14 am
May Pakistan regain its position as “The land of The Pure”. May the politicians start behaving honestly. May the Armed forces get back to their traditional role, to serve the citizens of the country. May the Rich reach out to the poor and share a bit of their wealth. May the country show generosity towards the minorities. May the madrassahs get to teach subjects other than religion only. May the jihadis be brought back into the main stream. All the best.
May the music, arts and sciences flourish.
August 14th, 2009 at 1:41 am
I pray for a united PAKISTAN. I pray for peace with india. I pray that my taxes are put to good use that is for the development of the country and not to fill in the pockets of our corrupt leaders. I pray that musharaf comes back and Pakistan once again is recognized in the world for the positives it has not the negatives. Long live Pakistan, Pakistan army, the people of Pakistan and musharaf.

ours is a beautifull country and we are a free nation now lets join our hands and switch off one light bulb or a fan at our work place or homes and we can save 3000 MW of electricity. We can get out any problem only when we are going to be a part of this country not only as a silent spectator.
August 13th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
LONG LIVE PAKISTAN
Yes this is the theme, wish, pray, word and request all to follow it. Whatever it is, it is good, comfort, love, our identity. Wherever you live in the world but you will identify by Pakistani. Our culture, traditions, way of lie, our thinking, our response to others is unique. Whatever ease, confort is there , you will not find anywhere inthe world. Think like PAKISTAN FIRST. Make your way of life like this;
PAKISTAN FIRST.
Whatevery you can do, do it for your nation.
August 13th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I pray that our great nation takes guidance from Iqbal’s poetry, understands the true spirit behind the Ideology of Pakistan and use the immense blessings of Allah in terms of nation’s resources to rise to the occasion and demonstrate that no force on earth can result in cracks in our ranks. May Allah give us courage and strength to remember our heroes like the Quaid, Iqbal, Liaqat Ali and Dr. AbdulQadeer Khan.
August 13th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Pakistan rose from dust and ashes. There no quick fix to problems we inherited and are dealing with. In nations life 60’s years is not a long time, we are indeed a younger nation. History shows that nations makes mistakes , and pays price but that how the process of building takes place. Pakistan require our patience and trust, and we should be ready for steady but slow process to put all these scattered pieces together. And we should remember no matter how small our contribution is , it should be there. Pakistan is not an entity , its us , we the Pakistanis are Pakistan and until we doesn’t lose hope in our selves, Pakistan is alive and well. I pray that we find strength and wisdom that is needed to build a nation , a nation that knows its rightful place in the world. Our love for Pakistan should be directed to Pakistanis first.
Pakistan ZINDABAD!!!!

I wish pakistan well on the eve of Independence day
August 13th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
My fondest memory of Pakistan and Pakistani people remains watching a cricket match together… as students in a foreign land. We had three bottles of paint – our national colours – orange, white and green and had started to paint our faces when we realized that our friends too wanted to join in the fun. And all we had to do was share with them our bottle of white and green paints !
Love is that simple
As an young Indian, I was taught a maxim that we cannot choose our neighbours but we can choose our friends. I choose my neighbours as my friends and irrespective of all the bad press that gets written on either side and all the ’so called problems’ that exist, all of this will eventually come to pass.
If Europe can overcome its hatred from past wars and work together for a better future, why can the sub-continent not do it ? Yes, it will take some time and with time, better sense will prevail. So to all my friends and neighbours from across the border – my heartfelt wishes on your Independence Day.
For tomorrow is a new day.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Wish Pakistani citizens the courage to move their leaders against the terrorist. Remember these terrorists are not robots where you can have total control. Therefore let the souls of Iqbal and Jinnah provide strength to you all to wipe off this menace. A terrorist free Pakistan is in interest of entire world.
I wish your COAS, President and PM very best.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
That as a nation we learn road/traffic etiquette . once it happens it will bring everything with it.
A- national character
B- unity, discipline
C- fear of law etc
this will revolutionize everything.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
My prayer for Pakistan is that we find a good leader, as we are in desperate need of good leadeship. And I pray that every pakistani starts believing that we as a country are much better than where we are at this moment, a little effort from everyone and we would be a great nation that our Quaid wanted us to be.
Long Live Pakistan
Proud To Be A Pakistani..
August 13th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Happy birthday Pakistan..
I wish my country every sucess in coming future. It may seem like that we are in a state of disarray, but come on people we have seen this before and we are strong enough to cope with these issues and Inshallah we will.

O God Please give wisdom to Pakisanis to reprodue at a much slower pace (ideally negatively), wisdom to make artificial lakes to retain rain waters as glacier ice melts away, wisdom to produce cheap electricity and above all … wisdom to reason critically and get over their stockholm syndrome of run of the mill politicians.
I know that is too much to ask for but you will never have a better chance to assert your presence if you can deliver this
August 13th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
I wish every citizen of pakistan gets education.
Our biggest problem is not poverty (although it remains a very big problem but certainly not the biggest).
Our biggest problem is ignornace.
Education teaches not only how to earn your livelihood but also:
how to tackle problems
how to accept criticism
how to face untoward attitudes
how to forgive and forget
how to respect others
how to remain humble even if you get great success AND
above all to remain optimistic in the toughest times and not to relinquish social sense
August 13th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
I feel it doesnt really matter what we think- what really matters is what Pakistan at this stage of crossroad wants Us to think and more importantly DO?
My prayer is for us to realize our potential, for us to choose from within, the difference between right and wrong, the power to quell the urge to commit malice, fraud, lies etc –
For us to instill values and morals in our kids, to impart the right information and ensure it doesnt get distorted –
I pray that WE PAKISTANIs behave like Pakistanis, like a nation in dire need of solidarity, unity and unification –
That is the ONLY way we can save our nation from total disarray and demolition or whatever little is left of it !
August 13th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I hope and prey that Pakistan comes out of the crises.
We need more darring and honest leaders like President Pervaiz Musharraf to get us out of this mess.
August 13th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
My Prayer for Pakistan is that May Allah bless us with the strength and will to make it the best place on the face of the planet… i pray that we could all realise how blessed we are to have a home of our own….
i pray that we could all rise above the differences of caste, color, creed and emerge as a nation…. i pray that a day rises when my green passport is returned to me with a smile….. i pray that this country stays on the face of this planet till eternity…. Ameen
we all know things are not good around us… But we are the one’s who’ll fix things up or atlest give them a try…
All we need to do it to keep the hope alive.. do what is right and things will be fine…. and to all those poeple who are hopeless i’d want to say, Allah helped us create a homeland just 62 years back… n it will instaAllah live as long as we’ll want to see it living… A very warm ” Azaadi Mubaarik” to all of us who are able to walk with their heads held high because millions sacrificed for this air that we breathe in….
August 13th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
I pray before anything, unity. Then comes education and political awareness, equality as a human being for all without exception and eradication of feudalism.
Can we achieve all these goals? Yes we can but we all have to work together instead of working solo.
August 13th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
I pray that all those who have been, and are still betraying the masses, for whom our great Quaid carved out this great homeland against all odds, may come to an end. Amen
August 13th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
My Prayer for PAKISTAN is:

For Pakistan to become a great country people of Pakistan need to realize that Islamization of the country can not be a basis for building a great country, they need to respect all of the religions and treat all the people equally irrespective of their religion.
Every one who wants to make Pakistan an Islamic country needs to understand that all the religions has same core values which teaches to treat every one equally and with respect.
The real happiness in the world can only be brought by finding the similarities between people and not the differences, when this will be realized by both of the countries India and Pakistan (This truth has been recognized by most of the European countries after centuries of fighting), only then we can be really on the path of growth.
August 13th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
The time when vision of great land was seen
Where every soul considered it as an ultimate doctrine
So as to facilitate creation of self-esteem
Time passed by, while people moved on with anticipation
The invaders of west succeeded to abduct the freedom of determination
Yet, a venerated intellectual crafted a theory of separate nation
At last birth of a nation was marked on August fourteen
Where Bolan, Ravi, Khyber & Mehran found home in between
As they pledged to make it a South-Asian queen
Shortly, all went away to defile
Started to indulge in a quarrel that turned all fragile
As a result, everything looked like hostile
It’s now time to open arms wide open & be excited
To have Bolan, Ravi, Khyber & Mehran once again invited
Because brothers are meant to be united

In 1947 when the flag of Pakistan was presented to the nation, no eye was devoid of tears – these were the tears of gratitude, love, awe and a passion so deep it defied all boundaries of religion, sect, region or culture. We all were finally given an identity: a sense of belonging, after being lost and suppressed by so many decades. We were branded Pakistanis, and this flag was our brand, our sacred symbol, our mark of recognition as well as unity. This flag is not the property of a person, a party, a religion or a sect. Our forefathers felt the flag was enough to represent each and every one of us, after this we will not need another symbol – evidently they were mistaken. When I see flags of political parties hoisted everywhere in the federal capital of Pakistan it makes me wonder wasn’t the Pakistani flag enough for our rulers? Or they think that Pakistan is not the property of Pakistani’s (who are proud to be represented by their flag irrespective of their background) but rather the property of a select few elected to govern.
Well my lords you can take away our food, education, electricity, sense of security and even our freedom of speech but please don’t take away our identity.

RBT wrote this for Pakistan too…
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

I pray that the citizens of Pakistan take control in their own hands, that they realize the importance and blessing of living under the flag of FREEDOM.
I pray that the educated population take up the responsibility to teach the under privilege ones.
I pray that this land gives us a leader to take us back to the very reason we came into existence.
I pray that UNITY FAITH & DISCIPLINE find its true place in the hearts and minds of this nation.
God Bless Pakistan and its TRUE Nation.

I pray and hope that
- Pakistan becomes a paradise for people from all quarters and walks of life in every possible way
- Pakistan be a place where there are no minorities
- Pakistan becomes a place based on the teachings of Holy Quran and practices of the Holy Prophet. By this I do not mean the “Mullah devised so called shariat” but the true one where people of all backgrounds and religions live together in harmony with equal rights
- May all good things happen to Pakistan including but not limited to prosperity & peace
May Allah bless Pakistan.
Pakistan Zindabad.

I pray that those who rule Pakistan may read the speech of Quaid delivered in March, 1943 regarding the rights of peasants/workers. In that speech Quaid said that I wont have a country where peasantry is exploited.
We pray for a Pakistan Quaid dreamt of…….

I pray to Allah on this 14th August that Pakistan transforms in to wat it really means..”A land of pure where each day sun rises with a new hope with an enduring majesty as the rays of light flushing down towards the snowcapped Himalays.A land where love finds a meaning in the heart warming hospitality of people.A land where history & ancient civilization mystifies one’s heart.A land where spiritualism unveils its mystery at the shrines of sufis & saints.”

I regret that I have but only one life to give to Pakistan.
Happy Birthday, Motherland. And many many more…

Well….my prayer is that a revolution takes root in Pakistani society and the old guard including all kinds of “elites” are disposed off never to raise their ugly elitest heads. All corrupt institutions are burnt to cinders and then perhaps from the ashes can arise a nation we can truly call “PAKISTAN” otherwise all our wishes, prayers are an excercise in futlity. What we have now is like a mould that cant take another shape it has become so dry that a complete demolition and new build job is required.
August 13th, 2009 at 4:03 am
My prayer would be that every Pakistani becomes the ’shaheen’ of Allama Iqbal. That in itself would be enough to get things straight.
Quaid-Azam Mr. Jinnah was one such ‘Shaheen’ (can’t believe it? go research their mentor-mentee relationship).
We must not forget that Pakistan was Iqbal’s idea, not Jinnah’s. And Iqbal wished ‘an autonomous region in India where muslims can rule with the tenets of true Islam so that the blot of monarchism (malookiat) that polluted the name of Islam could be washed away and the world can see what real Islam is all about’ (paraphrased from Iqbal’s Ilahabad sermon).
Our nation has had enough capable people who can easily help implement true Islam (agreed upon by both major sects)… if only they were heard!
I feel its a deception en mass that mr. Jinnah wanted a 100% secular Pakistan. Go read his speeches (e.g. one on the occasion of inauguration of State Bank of Pakistan).
Personally, I care more about what Iqbal wanted for Pakistan, not anyone else.
And through Iqbal, I know that future is bright!
So my prayer: May Allah make us a nation of Shaheens!

my prayer for my beloved motherland is that she becomes a state where all the human beings are given equal rights, irrespective of thier religion, race, language or colour. As she celebrates her 62nd anniversary of independence, she may be freed from all curruption, terrorism and unstability. That all her leaders may become sincere and honest in guiding her affairs.
August 12th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
I am sure we can achieve our goals. All we need some sincerity and dedication from our ruler elite. Come on guys! enough now, lets get serious. Lets not be jerks any more. Lets grow up and behave like humans!

I pray to Allah to save this country which is citadel of Islam in real sense and that is costing it too much. Islam will flourish from this country Insha Allah.
In the meantime I would request our media and politician to avoid divisions and adopt modesty. These days the language being used for Gen. Musharraf is neither Islam nor manner oriented.
Difference of opinion must not divide the nation.
August 12th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
As I thought would be the case, most people have attributed our problems to a lack of leadership but I think the problem is more with the people. The day the people realize their own position in the composition of the society things would start looking up for us. I pray that we as a people open our minds and broaden our horizon.
August 12th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
I pray that muslims in pakistan & elsewhere go back to their roots & study the beautiful way of life of Islam.
Only upon the guidance of Allah and His messenger can we find success. Secular democracy is not the way to go. Democracy only works upon the whims of the people and is an unstable way of life.
Only by practicing Islam in our social, political, govermental, economic, familial, and spritual life can we truly find ultimate success, both in this life & in the hereafter.
May Allah guide us all.

All great nations today went through difficult times, they learned from their past and prospered, being a young country Pakistan experience’s these hardships; but I have no doubt that Pakistan will come out bigger and stronger than any other nation ever did and ever will.
The biggest threat to Pakistan is a fellow Pakistani losing hope. Never lose hope.
Pakistan Zindabad!

Wish to see Pakistan a prosperous country.
Let’s all work for this to happen.
God bless great nation Pakistan.
August 12th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
May Allah Almighty give us the will to reform our own selves and the patience to tread through these times. May Allah protect Pakistan from all external threats and internal (including our own selves even of we are unaware of our actions). I ask him forgiveness for what we have failed to achieve in these past 60 yrs. May he guides us and our next generations on the right path.
I pray that we have a just society based on the principles of Faith, Unity and Discipline.
All this comes from the heart, so please do not be so pessimistic and spoil everything at the end by saying that you wished and nothing happened blah blah blah. Well being true Muslims, we should have strong faiths. Pakistan is such a beautiful blessing from Allah that knowing it exists, makes me feel strong. I know the progress it has made, leaves a lot to be desired but we can never give up praying and dreaming as long as we have Pakistan. After all tell me, when do we need to pray and work hard for it, after it is gone?
Certainly not, now is the time to pray and act, each of us.
A very happy independence day to all of Pakistan.
August 12th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
i pray to Allah Almighty for the betterment of Pakistan as a country on all the lines where prevails Justice & equality, rule of law & religious tolerance.
Allah almighty may give Pakistan a sincere leadership which could work for eradication of; corruption,Poverty, provincial disharmony& nepotism.

I hope for peace and progress, of course. I hope and pray that Pakistani men will realize that to get anywhere they must start respecting women and taking care of their children. We can’t get anywhere when half of our population is ignored and our future–the children–are deprived of good education, among other things.
August 12th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
First of all Happy Birthday Pakistan and to all the countrymen.
Pakistan is a blessing for us and there is no country like ours in the worlds. I have travelled to different countries but no country is like Pakistan. Pakistan has all that we could wish for but due to our leaders ignorance and lack of vision we have not been able to fulfil the vision of Quaid for the country to be strong, prosperous and unity to be maintained.
I as rest of us can pray for Pakistan and Insha Allah don’t lose hope we have a bright future ahead of us. Insha Allah.
I only could appeal for you to give bit of your time in building Pakistan as this is for our children’s future. Promote Pakistan to others so we could erase the perception people have of Pakistan. This is especially to those who live abroad in western countries.
May Allah protect Pakistan. Ameen.
Dil Dil Pakistan

I love you Pakistan

With the immense potential, with respect to its geopolitical situation, natural resources and 160+million workforce, there is no reason why a country like Pakistan cannot succeed, and inshallah it will!. We just need to be honest and believe in ourselves, and get rid of this religious extremism which has destroyed the national fabric.
I wish the nation a very Happy Birthday, and I always pray and look forward to happier days.

August 12th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I pray to GOD to give Pakistan at least one dynamic and honest leader who is ready to put real national interest above his personal matters will be enough to put Pakistan on the right track. But that seems like wishful thinking, because prayer alone is not going to change anything in Pakistan.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
I wish (like many of my fellow country men) and pray for peaceful, united and prosperous Pakistan. Pakistan that helps every one of its citizens to prosper, excel in all fields; become the role model for the region and the world. Pakistan with its immense natural resources and brain power can achieve this with ease if the nation decides to spend its energies in right direction.
Pakistan should do away with its India centric polities focus in the development of its human resources. Most of us Indians and our government always wish for progressive and prosperous Pakistan. Let’s eradicate poverty in our region completely by joining our forces in right direction. God bless Pakistan!
August 12th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
We know our past and are unaware of the future, I just pray for the betterment of the PRESENT Pakistan. Why worry about the future at a time when what we really need is a better present.
Pakistan has come a long way amidst the desperate attempts of some forces to bring her down. As a Pakistani, I can adamantly say that we may be slow but we are here to stay. Being the best person one could be, in terms of morally and as a human will eventually lead to a corrupt-free Pakistan and that is what all of us should do. To be accountable for ourselves. And just be a better human being to make a better Pakistan. Lets give Pakistan the glory she deserves.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
On Its 62ND birth day I wish Pakistan a bright future with prosperity for its citizens. Being an Indian, I have all love for Pakistani People and all hatred for its autocratic rulers who consistently tried to create a wedge between the two nations only to serve their selfish goals and not at all for any benefit to its citizens. India & Pakistan can together bring in an era of prosperity & peace in the region.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Bismillah, I wish and pray Allah swt showers His grace and mercy upon Pakistan and help protect and defend it from its internal and external enemies. I humbly supplicate to the Almighty to unite, integrate, assimilate and homogenize all Pakistanis so that all ethnic groups, provincial nationalities, religious sects andextremists are united as ONE PAKISTAN; that there be no Punjabi,Pakthun,Baloch, Sindhi, Kashmiri etc.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
On her 63rd B’Day I wish Pakistan a happy tomorrow so that India could enjoy a happy today!
Yes, I mean it. For a happy India is unconceiveable without a happy Pakistan.
August 12th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Adlai Stevenson once said: What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? I venture to suggest that what we mean is a sense of national responsibility … a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.
Lets work to build a better Pakistan. If not for us then for our children. My eyes see a bright future for Pakistan, a future filled with hope and prosperity.
Pakistan Zindabad.
August 12th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I can only pray and hope and so i pray and i hope for the best for Pakistan. I love my country with all my heart and hurts to see it suffer. All i can say is don’t ask what your country has given you but what you have given to your country? I promise i will give.
August 12th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Pakistan is a country which has a lot going for it – it has fertile land in large tracts, entrepreneurial people, a binding religious force for most of the people, Nobel Prize winners, Peace Prize winners, an ability to laugh at their own foibles (this is a great strength, not seen across many nations), victorious cricket ,wrestling, squash, hockey sporting legacies, a thriving bunch of intellectuals/poets/writers and a happiness index as per a recent international poll, which places them much ahead of most neighbours !I am sure there are many more things Pakistanis can add to this; it is just some top of the mind thoughts.
I think one should take quiet pride and build on ones strengths and in have a steely resolve to kill weaknesses in poverty, feudalism ,lack of trust amongst others.
Wishing you the best on your 62nd,
ANUJ
August 12th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
First of all let me say Happy Birthday to my beloved country and countrymen. Surely Pakistan has been in most difficult times in past and present but bright future awaits us if we as a nation wants to have it. Lets join hands in doing root cause analysis of mistakes that put us in this position. We should make an effective resolution how we should proceed for greater success and practically individually implement that resolution around us. Resolution must be “Unity; Faith and Discipline” in all walks of life
Surely Pakistan is here to stay InshAllah till end of World and very soon we the Pakistanis would be hailed as a great developed nation.
” may Allah help us achieve that” Ameen
August 12th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
It is usually better, if not easier, to take a positive approach in any difficult situation.
The first step to any self improvement is to move away from finger pointing to accepting self responsibility. The second step is put the nation above ones community even at the cost of some loss of communal/linguistic identity. Having read through various posts on Dawn’s blogs/forums it appears that the need to take these steps is being felt strongly.
I suspect the new generations of citizens who are yet to be born will inherit a prospering nation and will look back at these ‘lost decades’ as the years of soul searching and building of the nation’s identity. While the current generation struggles, these years will be a bunch of pages in the history books in the future. The new generation will look ahead and not spend too much time dwelling about the past.
But the key ingredient for the emergence of the progressive and prosperous New Pakistan is not its current GDP, military influence, religion, fertility of the land…, it really is your collective hopes and aspirations. To be true to your country take these first two important steps with more hope and less trepidation, with more tolerance and less malice. Relish the small victories as they add up to larger successes. Don’t dwell on the past or compare yourselves to others.
It may seem that all this may be easier said than done. But the least you can do for our country is to adopt this as your new way of life at your individual level. Learn to be at peace with your individual self first.
August 12th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
We will never be a modern, economically vibrant and democratic nation until we don’t fulfil honestly what was stated by the founder our nation on 11 August 47. Our present leaders should be courageous to separate the religious affair from the state affair. Our Quid believed that every individual should be guaranteed the freedom of his religious practice by the state but the state must not have any religion. He stated that no matter who you are and which religion do you have, the fact is that you are Pakistani. This is the only way in which our nation can succeed and can DEFEAT the religious terrorists, their violence and their bigotry.
August 12th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Pakistan Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow I my opinion was, is & Inshallah will remain a great country contributing to the peace and prosperity of its peoples and the world community. No doubt Pakistan had its share of ups and downs and as a strategic move Pakistan was made to shoulder responsibilities beyond its means & requirements. By the grace of Allah Pakistan stood the test of time and proved to the world about its commitment towards international cause. The way Pakistan survived the stormy weather all these years is commendable, had there been another country with the same test of time and hindrance, surely it would perished. I pray to Almighty Allah to protect Pakistan from all evils, make it stronger, make it peaceful and a contributor to international peace.
August 12th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
My wish for my nation to be what it was meant to be- to be what Muhammad Ali Jinnah dreamed for.
I know that the times are difficult, everything seems bad. But atleast I will never give up on Pakistan.
We deserve democracy, we deserve socio-economic prosperity & a strong defence, just like any other great nation.
Those who think ‘we’ don’t deserve it- should actually say ‘i’ don’t deserve it, don’t talk about the rest of Pakistan in that manner, leave this place if it pleases you.
My best wishes for Pakistan, & i know perhaps we will be going through turbulent times for the next 5-10 years(god forbid) but we will make out of it one day. Inshallah.
August 12th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
First and foremost I wish Pakistan all the best. I am an Indian (want to get that out of the way). When I was young in my early teens… I was an idealist. I wanted India and Pakistan to be like brothers… watching each others back and helping each other… like family. Then I grew older and in my early twenties I realized the white sheet of peace I had wrapped around the ideal of Indian-Pakistani brotherhood was a little ripped and soiled… nothing that couldn’t be fixed! I had heard of the wars in the 60’s and 70’s but that was the past. I still had hope. Then I was almost 30
I witnessed KARGIL! The white sheet of idealism and brotherhood was in tatters. I became a cynic. I still wish Pakistan all the best… BUT I am not so sure it will help. ANYWAY… as a good neighbor… I will still hope and pray that SOMEBODY in Pakistan sees the light of day and learns how to get along as decent neighbours.

Pakistan descended into a number of crises within weeks of its creation, the mother of all crises, though, was its inability to produce a transcendent leadership. It is pity that 62 years were not enough to bringforth a sincere leader. The nation is extremely disappointed with the corruption and indifference of successive governments. We still have a long way to go. My prayer for the country is that may Allah have mercy on us and bestow us with a virtuous leader.
August 12th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
My prayer is that The Islamic Republic of Pakistan becomes simply The Republic of Pakistan. Not only would this reflect Jinnah’s vision of a secular society serving the interests of British India’s Muslims but it would mean that all Pakistanis, including religious minorities, could identify fully with the nation.
If democracy automatically means that the majority has the greatest say, then a country with a majority Muslim popualation need not be an “Islamic Republic.” It can be merely a Republic, as the interests of that majority would be automatically represented.
Additionally, this would go a long way in stopping the slide towards fundamentalism and a false “Arab Nationalism” that began under the sinister regime of Gen Zia. it would allow Pakistan to build its own identity through its own rich, multi-ethnic culture, rather than importing homogenized ideas.
August 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Five years from now our dear motherland will continue to be drained and stained. We DON’T DESERVE democracy because we have been careless with responsibility and freedom.
August 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
I just want to request to the people of Pakistan, please, please, become an honest nation and elect new leaders. Otherwise the coming generation will not forgive us.
Thanks.
God bless Pakistan
August 12th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Im sorry to say.. but i dont really care about it anymore..corrupt politicians.. bureaucrats, police, lawyers, army, and people.. I dont see pakistan going anywhere or doing anything.
No disrespect to the author’s patriotic feelings.. been there done that and given up.
August 12th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
The question being asked here is where would Pakistan stand in another 5 years from now. All I can say is there is no point debating on such an issue as the future is a promissory note, today is where it’s at. Pakistan today finds itself in a mess only because of its misadventures over the years. Hence all I can say is stop worrying about the future and correct you course now!
I often find this word “resilience” being used in the media rather naive. I reckon its not the so called “resilience” but the helplessness which keeps us moving forward. As an Indian all I wanna say is for a prosperous Pakistan you have to deal with the terrorists.
August 12th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I am writing here on the behalf of all true patriotic Pakistani’s.We as a nation would like to tell Pakistan enemies that love for pakistan is running in our blood, those who are usurping the rights should realise that very soon nation will bring them out from any power. We love our country,we are ready to die for our country.Although our governing system has demolished our development yet time is not so far that patriotic people of this country will awake and take the charge of this country by themselves. We love our national poet ALLAMA IQBAL and Quaid-i-AZAM.Time has gone when people where convinced by false promises of rulers. THE VISION OF PAKISTANI NATION HAS BEEN CHANGED AND THIS IS THE GLIMPSE OF PROSPERITY FOR EVERY PATRIOT.
August 12th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
My prayer …. My prayer for our beloved motherland is that it becomes the model state for Islam. It symbolizes what a beautiful, peaceful and the best relegion Islam is. It becomes the most uncorrupt nation on earth. It gives equality to all relegions, ethnic groups and genders. I want to see Jinnah’s Pakistan where there is unity, equality and justice.
And above all I want to see a Pakistan where dispora Pakistanis who love thier country so so much dont feel even a little bit insecure to return to our roots. May we the 3rd generation of pakistan can live the dreams our grandparents saw when they abandoned everything in india to come to this new motherland.
May Pakistan become all our reasons and options. May Allah protect Pakistan from everything negetive and may our motherland live long. Ameen!
Happy BirthDay my love!
