Osama is Dead: You have to have your say

Osama Bin Laden had become a house hold name post 9/11. He will also probably go down in history as the most popular “Most Wanted” personality of all times. Now that the tall and lanky, 60 something man carrying around a kidney dialysis machine in his old age is dead, will the World become a safer place?

Irrespective of who you are and where you’re from, this man has probably impacted your life in both subtle and obvious ways. The acts of this man and his followers have put Muslims around the World and especially in Pakistan, in a very precarious situation. There is no doubt about the fact that the death of Osama Bin Laden marks a significant achievement for the “War against terror”. However, the manner in which Osama has been killed and the place where he was finally discovered raises many awkward questions for Pakistan.

As long as Osama Bin Laden has been in the news, you’ve heard different stories about him, his motives, his sinister plans and what not. What are your thoughts on Osama bin Laden, his life, his death and the likely aftermath of all the events that have taken place leading up to his death. Has justice been delivered or has the World paid too heavy a price for the “Most Wanted” man of all times?

A lot of budget is going to army. Those who pay tax in this country have to bear the burden ( Those who do not pay it does not matter to them where does the money goes). We can see DHAs flourishing around and posh areas of cantonment which have been given special privileges over years like blessed as areas where no electricity load shedding while the rest of the nation suffers. But what have been the outcome of all such investments. Usama has been found hiding near the military academy in a sensitive area in a masnhion with fifteen feet high walls with camers installed on it and nobody noticed it? I would not be surprised if tomorrow we get the breaking news that mullah umar was captured by US marines from DHQ or red zone in Islamabad. It will keep on happening unless or until we get rid of Zia’s legacy. May be world is more safe without OBL but Pakistan is still the most insecure country. Time has come for the nation to realize that the so called Jehad to empower the extremists is not the solution to their problems. Atomic bombs do not guarantee independence. We have nuclear weapons and still 20 marines enter the core of our country and carry out military operation. Reduce the military budget by fifty percent and spend teh same on education, health and overcoming energy crisis.

Shame on you ISI and Pakistan Defence forces, these guys flew in conquered and left before you could say “what the”. Easy to take the credit Mr. Gillani, it was them who did the job while you were in your cozy bed. You and all those in responsible positions have brought more Shame on us than any one before. Looting the country that i love is not enough for you, now we can never walk with our heads up high.

  3. dk says:

Good riddance to bad rubbish. And so much for Pakistani Soverignity and all their tall claims that OBL is not in their country. Not only was he deep in the heart of Pakistan, he was living in a huge mansion like a state guest.

i feel pakistani friends are very introspective and it is touching to see. Unfortunately in India ,all the religious groups are defensive . Introspection does not come easy.It could be that the constitution, which inadvertently is divisive. Our Nation’s founding fathers in the name of defending ‘minority rights’ have left a legacy of bitterness among the religious groups. The minority rights bill has only helped the rich in the religious groups be it christians or muslims. Sadly the daliths , even if they have converted to islam or christianity are still untouchable. may be christians fare slightly better.Sachar Committtee report informs us about the feeling of brotherhood among the dalith muslims and dalith hindus because both groups are not wanted by the rich in their respective religious groups. They only have each other. I congratulate ‘the dawn’ in its attempt to be neutral.I am sure i am likley to be bashed …

Its really astonishing that Pak army or ISI was not able to detect a helicopter coming into their territory and too near a military academy and doing an operation lasting for 40 mns. This means any country could carry a surgical strike inside pakistan if they wish to and they army & ISI will keep dozing in the nights. No wonder why all terrorist are having pak as headquarters. If a police can corner small time criminals why establishments which are gaurding the country cannot identify this guys. Answer is simple they are the one who is gaurding them. Like many countries giving adds for their tourism, pakistan can start giving adds to invite the terrorist across the country and army & ISI would be the perfect host with great hospitality. Pak has great resource and potential, people and commoan man should arose and lift the country up.

  6. Prateek Raj says:

Osama’s capture and killing in Pakistan shows the cracks in the Pakistani governance that is undoubtedly marred by opposing ideologies of liberalism and fundamentalism. I don’t doubt that the ‘government’ of Pakistan looks at terrorism and the people who have turned Pakistan into a terror haven, as the biggest threat that the country faces. But it finds itself in a catch 22 situation where destroying the terrorist infrastructure will mean greater internal instability and possible erosion of government’s power, while letting the camps produce new breed of terrorists will gradually turn Pakistan into a rouge state.

But finally Pakistan has to take a call some day, and better sooner than later. The inaction will only make things worse.

There is lot of corruption in Asian and arabian countries. Leaders and rulers are living luxurios lives and public is living a life full of struggle. Rather than killing people for your object, build public opinion to win without a fight, Egypt is the example. Bin ladin, took a wrong path for his objectives. He should have realised that he could not win over a superpower, yet, could bring change in Arabian countries through waking up people, which could get rid of western interference and influence. What happened has damaged muslim image in the world. It will be nice for people of india and Pakistan to be friends, not enemies to live a more fulfilling life to get rid of user countries and to give peace and prosperity to their people.

  9. Joe T says:

Did I hear right ? The United States gives Pakistan Billions of dollars a year . You mean to tell me the goverment didn’t know where he was ?

  10. shouvik says:

This dude was hiding behind his wife when his call came. How pathetic. At least he could have
    died like a real man.

  11. xtra aziz says:

very few fanatics dancing and shouting on Paki streets.

have they finally realized that no one is safe anymore, regardless where he/she lives?

The Apaches wont be leaving Bagram for a long time.

  12. Muthu Kumar says:

The Government of Pakistan cannot stoop lower than this. That they didnot know Osama was hiding right under their nose is so disgraceful; they cannot lie worse than this. People like Musharaaf talking about Pakistan’s Sovegrnity getting compromised after it was hit right at the heartland. What was he doing when scores of pakistanis were killing by drones Inside pakistan. I wish people of pakistan understand the motives of the government and ask them to come out of their lie mode and accept the truth with grace.

  13. Bijit says:

OSAMA was at Abottabad from 2005 getting dialysis in Military Hospital while Pak Army was charging USA Billions of $ to “track and eliminate OSAMA”. But when Pak Army realised that OSAMA shortly would “kick the bucket” due to illness “SOLD OSAMA” to make a few more Billions from USA – for General Kayani and ISI. Now Kayani can settle happly in London after he retire like Musharaff and ISI has more funds to attack India.

  14. Bijoy says:

It is a good feeling to realize that we are much safer than yesterday. I would say it is the time to rework on ISI and Pak military administartive structure and do what they are meant to do thereby gaining the confidance of people round the globe.

  15. pete of australia says:

Maybe you will get serious with these loonatics and cricket can return to pakistan.

  16. Suhail Moonda says:

This came as a huge surprise to me. I was expecting Osama to pop up from a chamber inside Zardari’s home and attack Obama when Obama would come to visit Pakistan.

  17. The Afghan says:

The American adminstration goal was to get Osama dead or alive…and they did so..now just withdraw the American troops from Afghanistan and transfer to Pakistan to kill the other terrorists in Pakistan!!!

  18. Agha Ata (USA) says:

Talibans are not very wise when they say they will target Army and the Government. Army didn’t handle them or eleminate them, because army didnt want to. Now, I am sure they would. Think about it.

  19. Sridharan says:

Bin Laden was nurtured by USA. Who has to be blamed for all the death and destruction he has created?

    • abdul says:

      agree 100%

    • KiD a says:

bin Laden was given aid by Carter and Reagan throughout the 80’s. The Soviets were invading Afghanistan, and being that the Soviet Union was ruled by a single communist party, of course we were going to support Afghanistan. In 1990, Suddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, so the U.S. backed Saudi Arabia and sent troops over. Osama bin Laden, being born in Saudi Arabia and having family ties with Saudi Royalty, opposed Americans to be in the holy land… His bitterness towards America started emerging afterwards. Hitler emerged similar to this too. You have to earn your way to the top before you can turn on your allies and attempt to take over the world. Think about it.

  20. Srikanth says:

I honestly believe this is a opportunity for the liberals in Pakistan to take control .. The time is NOW to sideline the military and ISI, who despite whatever they claim -do not act in Pakistan’s best interest .. they only act for their own ends …

    • Abdullah says:

Very High hopes. Liberals are already in control of pakistan.
In Pakistan, Hardliners and liberals are same people – two sides of the coin.

    • shalabh mishra says:

      keep dreaming

  21. Nilesh says:

I really appreciate all the muslim bhai who posted their thought for this. Actually Pakistan government is not taking initiative to kill terrorism. common man is always in faith of humanity for that religion, caste, doesn’t matter.

  22. Malik(USA) says:

To a question on the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, Gilani said he did not have minute details of the incident.

    To PM Gilani:
Were you born yesterday or what that you dont have a slightest idea of what is happening near the capital and near the miliatry accademy?

    • Osama who was transfering terror to the world was killed in the heart of pakistan, prior to that Pak scientist prisioned in his house for trnsfering of necular technology to the different states .This shows the fragile nationalism and weak nation state of Pakistan.it is not only embarassing, but Pakistan political elite should revisit and seriously think what typre of nation thay want to make.Anti India ,bleed India finally has worked aganist its own nation state. It has ramifications. We feel sad about it.

  23. Dr.S.O.Mahboob says:

Obama is a weak leader and a strong liar.

    1. Did they found Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq……..NO
    2. Did they found downed plane in Pentagon……..NO
    3. Was Remond Davis a US diplomate as Obama said……….NO

This nigger is lying. He is just trying to secure some votes.
Sadly our media is also singing the same song as western media. I can’t believe our media has such low intelligence or may be they are also pay role of CIA .
It is unbelievable & unacceptable that did not show the video or photographs of the dead body.
It is a hard fact that ISI and CIA are having worse relations now then ever before.
Its another trap for Pakistan & Pakistani army. It is just another attempt to show that Pakistan is a unstable and failed state and should not be a Nuclear power and should be deprived of Nukes.

    • Rob says:

I don’t know what sort of doctor you are, but same on you for the racist language.
Further, you are calling President Obama a liar for things that happened before he was in office.
Open your eyes man, Pakistan can have failures without it being the fault of someone else.

Why can’t you take responsibility, are you a child?

    • Pilee Bilee says:

Dr. Mahboob – for a European you too will be a “Nigger”. Think before making racist comments.

    • Keena Dupia says:

Are you seriously taking this slant? So they killed , what? a Saint?

And because they didn’t show you a body etc, your saying that he wasn’t killed? Sweet.
Live in your disillusion, if it comforts you.

Why can’t you look at it objectively? He was in war with USA and the rest of the world where his ideology has spread. We can’t take the train , go for a holiday, walk through a freaking airport IN PEACE BECAUSE OF HIM AND ALL HIS FOLLOWERS!!

Answer this : Has the US in the past or present used nuclear power as a sheild or weapon? and subsequently ask yourself if there had not been a super power like the US of A would anybody else be able to stop this murderer? because of them at least this group is kept in check! who else can do the job? face facts pls.

    • shankar says:

This is brilliant analysis! What imagination! The whole world is conspiring against Pakistan! Somebody like Osama Bin laden never existed. He was created and killed only to defame Pakistan! All the suicide bombings and destruction in Pakistan is the handiwork of Americans! 9/11 was the conspiracy hatched by the jews! Bombay carnage was the handiwork of Hindu fundamentalists! Brilliant!

    • Pete says:

Do you realize that Obama was not President when 9/11 happened an the Iraq war started? Do you know that the US election is almost 2 years away and no American will care about what happens today when they go to vote then?

  24. Shaikh Mohommad says:

Might is right. But for how long. “The world’s wors terrorists are based in Washington – John Pilger The Daily Independent 25 August 1998

  25. Nothing much to say other than this could be the prelude to right of Pakistan invasion by American boots. The US and Pak army are together fooling their citizens with drama after drama. It doesn’t make sense that a man of this stature could be literally living just under the very nose of ‘mighty’ Pak army and they didn’t know about it. US helicopters came all the way from Afghanistan shredding the sovereignty of the country to pieces and the Paki border guards did not know about it ? Either OBL was not there or he was put there with the complete knowledge of all the powers concerned. Today the Pakistani nation has died another death . Let’s see how many more to come and how obstinate we are . The suicide attacks have already begun with the first one in Charsadda. People brace yourself for more turmoil because this is your fate.

    • sajid khan says:

You have a good point. It is so dificult to believe that all this could happen in Abbottabad
which is a military garrison and the military personnel won’t know about Bil Laden as well as
the intrusion of the helicopters. It was a huge risk for USA to undertake such an operation
with a chance of being challenged by Pakistani army and foil the entire operations. It is quite
certain that Pakistani army was taken into confidence and they are playing “dumb” to avoid
      the backlash from Jihadis.

Overall the death of Bin Laden is a good news. He is repsponsible for killing thousands and
making thousands more as windows and orphans. He has tarnished the image of Islam.
      May he burn in hell!
